powering a freezer

While in the bush (Alaska), I'll be spending up to 2 weeks away from the RV. Fridge will run on the propane, how would you keep a chest freezer powered? Solar panels, small wind turbine, battery bank and convert charge to 110?

Hard to make two weeks. Even good solar panels in Ak may not be enough. Could get 5 or 6 days with nothing but rain. Best bet is park it where you have power for those 2 weeks you are away. Alternate power sources are just not a sure thing.

When are are you talking about? You flying out of Anchorage? PM me with details. I am currently on the road but if during hunting season and you are leaving from Anchorage can work out a deal for you to have power.

I don't think you will be able to keep a freezer operating on any of the alternative methods you mentioned. Solar panels and wind turbines cannot be relied upon due to weather conditions and you would need an extremely large bank of panels and turbines to keep a bank of batteries charged up enough to run an inverter to keep a deep freeze running. Depending upon its size, it may draw anywhere from 8-12 "surge amps" to get it up and running. Once in operation, it could draw 3 amps and up - depending again on its size.

You would need a good-sized generator or be plugged into 110v to do what you want to do. And how would you keep a generator running for 2 weeks if you aren't going to be there?

Bottom line? You need 110v AC continuous power.
