2008 Cougar 276rls

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum, looks like a place I need to be. I'm new to the rv world and have purchased a 2008 Cougar 276rls Fifth Wheel, my first camper. I have a couple of questions for the experts, I have figured out about everything but a few things (so far) 1= There is a hose connection under the drivers side of the camper near the bathroom that hangs down. 2= There are two hose connections under the same side pretty much under the sink area. Those are very close together. Can anyone help me out on the purpose of these hoses? 3= My galley water shows full on the gauge, I have opened and drained the black and the grey tanks, both are empty. Is the galley tank separate?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Mike

Hi and welcome to the Forum
While not familiar with you particular camper I think you will find that the single line up front is not a hose connection, but is a drain for the fresh water tank. According to Keystones web site you have a 60 gallon fresh water tank. Somewhere on the outside of the camper there should be a filling port for the fresh water tank
The two lines that are close together will be your low point drains. these are for draining the hot and cold water lines from your camper. You will need to remove the water from your lines when winterizing your trailer so the lines don't freeze.
Keystones web site also indicates you have a 38 gallon black tank and 76 gallons of grey water capacity. Most likely two 38 gallon tanks, so I would look around for another drain handle somewhere. It will most likely be in a different location from the other drains and may not be easy to find. It may be kind of hidden from view. I have my second grey valve tucked under the trailer behind the rear axle, so you may have to look around to find it.
Good luck and enjoy your new to you camper.

Look for the second gray water tank drain valve handle in the wheel well areas. That is where mine is for the kitchen sink tank on the Mountana Mountaineer. Mine is marked with a sticker on the outside of the skirting.
What Tazz says regarding the other drains.

What Elk4me says!

There is definitely a second grey water drain valve. Mine was located right in front of the driver side wheels, and it's was right next to the frame - and it's a smaller black knob. We don't have the same model but I expect yours is right there too. It is marked on the side of the RV too, with a small sticker, just start at the front grey water sticker, move towards the back to the black water tank sticker, and at the same level keep moving back and you'll see the second grey water tank sticker.

BTW, I had a real hard time finding mine too. I still get grief from my DW about it, welcome to the club.

Only two ways to empty the fresh water tank. You either use it when camping (sink, shower and toilet ) Or you drain it by opening that single line up front that you mentioned in your first post. It is a gravity drain and will take quite a while to empty if you have any substantial amount of water in the tank.
To use the fresh water from the tank you will need to turn on the water pump. There should be a switch inside the trailer. The pump is 12V. and will run off of the RV battery.
On a related subject, make sure the water heater bypass valve(s) are open before you turn on the water heater. The bypass is used when winterizing or you will put 6 gallons of RV antifreeze into the heater tank.
Being new to RVing there is lots to learn so don't be afraid to ask questions. Lots of good folks on here to help you out.

Do yourself a favor and get a twist on slide valve for the sewer exit line. This will protect you from getting a nasty surprise if one of the three valves starts leaking. And in a pinch you can open the two galley tank valves and keep this one closed to equalize the two tanks, may get you an extra day or two.

I have even equalized the black with a grey when things get really tough, although not recommended.

Thanks all, I'm going to like this place. So the one line below the toilet area that has a hose connection would be for flushing out the black tank? Cannot thank you all enough.

It should be labeled as a black tank flush. if not perhaps you could post a picture of it so that we can be sure before we tell you. Just to be sure we're telling you the right things.

Welcome to the forum!

Ok, I went and Googled your trailer model and lo and behold the one I
choose to view was from your hometown, perhaps the same one???
http://www.rvtrader.com/listing/2008...6RLS-117730242
Anyway, regarding the black tank flush, it most likely is that small round
fitting just above the square door immediately in front of the slide-out
My trailer is listed below in the box at the left. Made at the same place
as yours and although the floor plans are a bit different, from looking through
the pix your front section (starting from the entertainment system, is very
similar to what mine is. There is access to the back of the outdoor shower and
the black tank flush connection inside the Left hand storage door under the TV,
a couple of screws and the left wall comes right out. Telling you this as the
infamous anti-siphon valve is (on mine), located there. I call it infamous as they
are known to bust and leak quite a lot. So, first time you use it prop the basement
door (Large rectangular one just forward of the flush), open so you can see if it
is leaking.

Welcome to the wonderful and sometimes frustrating world of RVing.
You did find a good place for helpful information.

Thanks for the welcomes from all, HANKAYE that is the same model as mine but I do not have that fitting located beside the outside shower as the show in the picture, If I could get that much for mine I'd sell it tomorrow, I picked mine up at a local auction near me, only paid $5500 for it, very clean and came with about everything to camp with except dishes, pots and pans, utensils, every electric adaptor, sewer connections, jack pads, hoses, etc. Always been happy with this floor plan. Will try and upload some pics. Won't be able to get the valve picture till tomorrow. Will post that on Sat. when I return back to work.Click image for larger version

There you go, you now have a couple of members with the same or similar trailers to help you out with questions for your specific unit. For generic RV questions many on this site will chime in with helpful answers.
Lopks like you got a heck of a deal on that trailer.

Ok, got some pics to try and figure out whats going on.

Attachment 10659

Think I got this one figured out, these must be the low point hot and cold drain lines. Located under the galley area. ( Thanks to you all)

This hose connection is located under the toilet area, I'm assuming this is the black water flush port.

Attachment 10658

This one is located at the rear of the trailer, close to where the city and fresh water hook ups are. There is nothing above this area in the trailer, since it is a rear living area.

Thanks again for all of you alls help.

Ok, top to bottom in order;

Correct. Those are your low point drains ... open faucets, remove caps allow gravity
to do it's job.

That would be my guess as well. Looks to be after market, be sure to use a back-flow
preventer. I'd attach it right there. Be sure to use a separate hose for just this job.

That should be your Fresh water tank's drain. It's where mine is. Remove the fill cap
or not, there is a vent right next to the filler.

Ya got yourself a good lookin' RV, enjoy it.

276RLS model

They really don't change these models much, of course given there are only so many ways that make sense for a common sense layout. The rear area you show in your pictures is the same as our 291RLS, with the primary difference being the dining booth is replaced with a regular table and chairs. We like that better, as we are both tall, and sometimes squeezing into those booths is hard for us. Up front, quite a bit different as we have a slide-out for the bed, and different bathroom layout.

Since it is so similar looking, many of our connections are the same too. We have a built-in Black Tank flush connection, but that is probably because we have a 2012. We use it liberally, and if no one is behind us when we dump the black tank, we'll let it run for 15 minutes or more.

Enjoy, we really like our unit, sure you will like yours!
