Dc Touch lights interfere with power antenna

Hi all. We have a 2018 cougar tt, Anytime we are watching tv with the antenna and turn on one of the touch lights or plug something in to the DC power outlet, the picture freezes. Also, if we have one of the tap lights on and do a channel scan, we don’t pick up any channels. Turn off the taplights and unplug from the DC outlets and everything is fine. It’s done this since it was new. Any thoughts or others with same experience?

Thanks,

Don

Almost sounds to me like the booster is bad.

Hi Don: you are not alone. Our TV freezes up when we put the bathroom light on when on the antenna. I just figured it interferes with the signal. I'm not worried about.

Don, we also have the problem of watching TV and having the Maxxair power vent in the ceiling turned on. As soon as we turn it on the signal goes away. I know this doesn't help your situation, but misery loves company.....

Do you all have same brand of tv? Are they 12 volt tv's? If so that may be the problem. Usually they are the cheapest on the market, not something you or In would ever buy.

Most of the LED lights used in RV's today have a voltage regulator circuit in the wiring. That voltage regulator can cause interference with the TV signal. Almost all of the lights do not require them to be installed with polarity. You might try reversing the 12 VDC wires on the light assemblies. Just remove the light from the wall, reverse the two wires and see if that helps. If not, then the choice is to either replace the light with another one (gamble on if it will be better) or replace the LED with an incandescent light (uses more electricity and produces more heat). Alternatively, just don't use that light fixture when watching TV.

You also may have a "whisker" (stray wire on the end connector) on one of your co-ax runs from the antenna to the TV, but that would probably also be causing other reception issues.

John: Thank you for the suggestions. For us, its not a big deal to live with it. I'll leave the led bulb in for now. Danny: its a regular TV, not a 12v.

We have the same problem with our LED lights, but it only affects the weaker stations. In our case the problem LED lights are are the flat round 12 volt to 28 volt bulbs.

The LED fixtures generate RFI. There is not much you can do except don’t use while watching OTA tv. I’d not recommend replacing with standard lights. They draw more current and get hot.

You can however drop the fixtures causing RFI and use ferrite beads to decouple the DC lines.....

And you could also install a couple of ferrite beads at the coax feed line to each tv to try and decouple the RFI from the TVss. For best results with this form a couple of loops in the feed coax to TV set and install ferrite bead.

What Chuck said^^^^. We use what I call a ferrite "clamshell" that snaps around a coax or wire feeding a computer speaker to filter out RFI interference from radio transmissions. And as John said, you are likely getting RFI (radio frequency interference) from the LED lights. Get a "clamshell" thats a larger one, so you can wrap the TV coax around a couple times. And if you have enough coax length, use two clamshells, right next to each other as close to the TV coax hookup as you can get it.

What this is doing is "choking out" the RFI that is being picked up by the coax just before entering the TV.

Here's an Amazon link to the clamshell: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JMTCC5U...a-502908792392

Good luck. RFI can be a real PIA!

No, ours is a Samsung, 50", MU6300, 4K. Not like it is the very top of the line, but a nice TV.

Its the LED lights. Mine did the same thing. If you are still in warranty then have the dealer change them for ones with filters on them. That is what I had done and it fixed the problem. I had a couple other of the lights flicker and go dim on their own so they changed those too. Complain about it and have them fix it.
