Norcold 2118 Your Settings?

Hi Fellow Alpine owners, we purchased our brand new 2018 Alpine 3500 RL in February this year which we exchanged for our Discovery RV and are currently on the Costa Blanca in Spain.


Weather in February was warm during the day cool at night and we had our fridge / freezer on setting 2 electric and on reaching temp would switch off.


Well its mid June now temp at 4pm is 33c (91.4f) and at 3am 20c ( 68f) and I have just moved the setting to 5.


Now I know there are areas in the USA far hotter than Spain so I was wondering what settings your fridge is set at and the current temp outside?

Welcome to the forum from the other side of the pond. We have a residential fridge so I can’t help with the Norcold. Enjoy your new rig.

You'll need a thermometer so to set it to near 0 degrees Fahrenheit for freezer & near 38 degrees Fahrenheit in the fridge. My setting for those temps will vary from yours. I've had to use a screened tarp clipped to top of the slide & staked out at the bottom about 45 degrees to provide shade over the fridge when it was extremely hot to get anywhere near those temps. Also a small battery operated fridge fan inside helps a great deal.

I have the 2118ss and have to run it on 9 with additional fans in the back and it is unstable and takes forever to cool down. My temp range is 70-110 degrees F. Moving on to a residential fridge in my Alpine 3700fl. Good luck with your setup.

Hi Guy's thanks for your replies so far, first been Brits and on our second American RV I am aware of Norcold / Thetford and Dometic fridges but this thread is the first time I've hear of Residential??? hope that's the make ?



Our new 5th wheeler front faces south the same as our A class RV did and the fridge /freezer is on the near side ( east facing ) even so on the A class I rigged a screen between two slide outs to near ground level to give additional sun protection.


The 2118 Norcold in the Alpine has built in fans in BOTH the fridge & freezer, the Norcold 1200 in our old Discovery did NOT have any internal fans.

Residential fridge means it’s one that could fit in a stick and brick house.

We have the Norcold 2118 also and keep ours on #7. The hottest days so far have been 85-90 F with no problems so far but I have not actually checked the temperature inside. Also ours is in the slide out so I will have to keep a check on things with a thermometer. Ice cream is hard in freezer and beer is cold on bottom shelf.

Residential means electric only no propane- designed for a house not RV.

We have the Norcold 2118 and have used it for 180days this past year. We keep it on #5. Outside conditions range from 28 to 98 Deg. F. We have never had an issue with it. We had to move the eggs from the top left side due to freezing them. In our favor there are only two of us and it does not get opened that much. We only make Ice at night, and cut and refrigerate the melon before retiring.

Would it be possible to take a couple of pics for me? I’d like to see how it looks inside the bottom and top external vents as far as ventilation and baffles go. How about inside where your thermistor is located on the fins. Mine was installed on the second fin from the right about a 1/4” down.

Hi Guy's, our 110v Norcold 2118 is been run via a step down transformer from the Spanish 230v system, on our camp site each pitch has 16amp EHU yes we are not as luck as you guys with 50amp EHU, I have a meter connected into the electric supply input that shows the amount of kws been used, air con, microwave or electric kettle can be used but only ONE AT A TIME.
