Need help on hitch height

Good evening all. Need a little help if you can.

I have a 2018 Chevy 2500 Duramax 4x4 with 20" tires (from factory) and towing a 2018 Laredo 330RL. Hitch components are the standard Curt Mfg round bar (chain) WD.

Can someone tell me what the height of the ball should be from ground totop of ball? I don't think mine is set correctly as my truck is dropping close to 4 inches when connected and hanging 5 links.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a picture of original setup with trailer level.

From what I have read the ball should be higher than the coupler.

The ball height and WD setup is a compromise to attempt to get the correct weight distribution with the trailer level. Usually, you will configure the hitch with the ball at a specific height as a starting point, but then dial the configuration in using the WD hitch installation/setup instructions.

If your truck is drooping too much in the rear, I would suggest going through the WD setup instructions and make sure you're within the limits outlined by the hitch manufacturer.

I would also have a second look at the weight limits on the truck and make sure you're not exceeding those (GVWR, GCWR, GAWR (front/rear), Payload, etc.).

I believe the top of the ball should be 1" higher than top of the coupler to start with. YMMV

X2 on going through the hitch manual and following it step by step. It should include all the required measurements to make sure it’s setup right.

Thanks for the replies. I will try that this coming weekend. I am fairly confident that it is not due to an over weight situation. I have more than enough truck for trailer. Just need to get hitch set up correctly.

Chuckster57,

Just so I understand, you normally start with top of ball 2" higher than top of coupler?

I tweaked it some yesterday and got some improvement. I don't think I was 2" higher.

We try to use the 2” to start, seems to work about 95% of the time.
