Only 6 hours clearing snow today <ahem>... That's with a 60" snowblower on a diesel tractor BTW....

According to the TV station in Cadillac, we win the state "storm total" with 39". Still predicting 3-6 additional tonight (45") and possibly 3-6 more tomorrow (51") for this past 3 days, so "it ain't over yet".....

holy moly, that is mind blowing. Can't say I have ever seen that much snow, much less experienced it. I wouldn't have the first clue of where to begin.

It's official. The NWS has just issued a new weather warning for all of Michigan !!! Spring is headed our way !!! We still have about 12-18 inches of snow on the ground, but we lost almost 6" yesterday and should lose even more today. The problem is the 6-8 foot piles (WalMart's parking lot has 20'+ piles) that will probably take until mid-late May to melt.

Low temps are still in the 20's, so it's too early to de-winterize, but hey, it's a move in the right direction.

That’s good news! Are you getting antsy to ride the new scooter? Is there an option for chains?

I don't know about chains, but there are some people who have installed studded snow tires to ride in the winter. Me, I'll wait until the roads are dry and it's above 60 (maybe 50 for the first few weeks). We're still riding snowmobiles as well, so all is not lost. I just want to change from a blue/white sled to a red/black "go-cart"......

Our road (we live on a private gravel road) is about 12" deep in slush/ice/snow/mud. I pushed much of the slush off the road yesterday, but with the melting, it was quickly replaced with melting runoff. Last night most of that froze and this morning, once again, 12" of slush/ice/snow/mud.... I'll make my daily "road grader pass" after lunch.

Once we get past the first 800', it's blacktop and pretty much dry. It's just getting from the garage to the road that's the obstacle course.

Glad to hear you are at least in the freeze/thaw cycle. Better than being sub 32 around the clock right

Going to the cabin in St Helen tonight. Need to start clean up routine up there. Hopefully remaining snow will go quick. The extended forecast up there looks good for a change!

As usual, the M-55 line is "alive and well".... Open fields south of M-55 and snow/ice north of M-55. I don't know how that always happens, but West Branch/Houghton Lake seems to be the dividing line for snow that sticks around "forever"...... Expect snow in St Helen, but hopefully you'll find more slush and mud, a clear sign of warming weather !!!

We are pulling our trailer out of it's winter home in East Tawas next Friday (4/27) and heading over to Rifle River State CG in Rose City for the weekend. Hoping there is no snow and and the site is dry. Don't think the H2O will be on, so that means the dump won't be open either for flushing the tanks (?)..will call ahead...Also, Rose City has that great Artesian well in town, so we will be filling a few big jugs with that refreshing drink..

I put the snowblower back in the pole barn, pulled the new aluminum trailer out of the snowbank and tomorrow will put the slingshot on it, tow it around the corner to the other pole barn, drive it off and we're going for a long ride. The blacktop roads are dry, it's just getting from the garage to the blacktop. But, I've had enough looking at that thing in the pole barn, tomorrow it's going somewhere.... Helmets are ready, snowmobile suits if needed, but probably just long johns and a windproof coat. So, if you're in northern Michigan and see a red "batmobile" zipping past you, wave, it'll be me and the DW... I promise, if you can see under the helmet, you'll definitely see smiles !!!

Great!! Have fun. I know I wouldn't be able to sit there and look at it either. Be safe, watch for the slick spots, drifts and snow removal equip. .... Let us know how the drive went.....when your fingers unthaw

Have a great time!! If your wearing open face helmets I wouldn’t worry about bugs in the “grill”.

We went to modular (full face) helmets several years ago. The easy on/off of an open face helmet with the protection of a full face helmet. Since we both wear glasses, it's much easier with a modular. If you've ever been hit in the head with a June bug at 70 MPH, you know that it's hard to maintain consciousness after the strike. There's no June bugs around in April, but my luck, a "errant bee" or a "slush bath" from a vehicle in the next lane..... For us, it's "always helmets"....

That’s good. Helmet law here on the left coast for years. I gave up riding back in the early 80’s when I got tired of being a target. Rode a Kawasaki KZ1000 MKII, with custom paint. Everybody thought I wanted to race and would “goad” me into pulling the throttle to avoid a collision.

Yup, seems there's always someone who wants to show you that their mom's Camaro is faster than your MC... They don't seem to care how close they get or how you try to avoid them.... I started riding in Junior High on a MoPed (easy to pedal when your allowance runs out and you can't afford a half gallon of gas) and managed to survive riding a Bultaco 471 in Turkey, Germany (autobahn is awesome on a BMW 1200 LT) and most of the UK. About the only bike I've ever ridden that didn't elicit someone wanting to race was a Honda "Pu-ying" (a 50 CC scooter).

Sounds awesome John! Enjoy the ride on the slingshot; I'm glad you finally get to get it out on the road. Let us know how it goes (weather, other road conditions, bugs, etc).

Will do Matt. It's supposed to be 55, sunny and clear tomorrow. We're both looking forward to heading out for lunch "somewhere away from here" and then a relaxing ride back home "the long way around".... It's been a long time waiting for weather to clear up, so we're probably as excited as two kids on Christmas Eve.....

We may have to deal with snow in our area but at least we don't worry about mud slides, fires and earthquakes!
