Talking 2019 Cougar 26RBSWE Coupling height?

Hello all,
I just got my first cougar...But I can't pick it up till Wednesday.

What I hoping for is that someone could measure the top of the coupling height...I need to set up my receiver ball height and don't what drive back to the dealer or ask them.
I'm hoping someone has easy access to their unit.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum

Congrats on your new purchase. Any dealer worth doing business with will do,it for free, that said most common height from the ground for the ball is 22-24”. If your using a WD hitch make sure the head is tilted BACK about 10 degrees.

Thanks for the quick reply Chuck.
I know the dealer I deal with would do it. I just hate to bother them.

And thanks for the 10 degree tilt tip. It is an equalizer hitch set up.

If you have "soft" suspension I would set it at 24" if you have stiff springs then 22" should do it. either way you'll be ok to take it home and then fine tune it after loading your gear in it.

First, congratulations on your new Cougar!

Call the dealer and ask them what the coupler height is, then you can install the hitch head at the right height. It’ll need to be completely set up anyways before you leave their lot with your new Cougar so don’t worry about getting it exactly right now but I would recommend that you get the ball installed on the hitch head now and torqued to the specified 430 ft-lbs. before you head to the dealer. You may need to take it to a shop to get the ball torqued to spec.

Dealers are notorious for doing a poor job setting up WDHs but even if they know what they’re doing, you’ll need to re-do the setup after you’ve loaded all your stuff in the TT. Typically, that stuff will weigh 700 - 1000#. So my advice is to get the installation instructions and familiarize yourself with how to set up your Equal-i-zer hitch (there are lots of videos on YouTube). If the dealer installs it, watch them do the setup. Make sure they place the L brackets where they’re supposed to be - 27” to 32” from the coupler. Also make sure they don’t over-torque the bolts on the L brackets (I’ve had 2 different dealers do that and they bent the vertical part of the L brackets). Take your own torque wrench and verify the torque on all the bolts before you hook up. If your torque wrench doesn’t go to 320 ft-lbs (the torque required for the shank bolts) remember that torque is just length times distance so if you have a breaker bar you can put it on the shank bolts and use an extension pipe and stand on the extension pipe the right distance from the bolt head. I used a short piece of steel pipe as an extender.

Enjoy your new TT!

Congratulations on your new trailer. I use an equalizer hitch also. It works great, I have never had a problem with it.

I picked up this torque wrench so I could do all of my own hitch work. I’m very happy with it.

We've got a Bullet 261rbswe and if I recall it was 22" not sure what would be different. Likely all the same sub frames.
