Sedona, AZ Ideas

We are traveling to Sedona this June. This is our first trip to the area so we are looking for ideas of places to see while we are there. We are staying at the Dead Horse State Park near Cottonwood, AZ. Any thoughts about possible stops along the way to or from the area would be appreciated as well. We plan to travel down Hwy 89 from Utah to Flagstaff then hwy 17 to Sedona. Time is not an issue so side trips along the road less traveled are pretty normal for us.
We appreciate the help!

Slide Rock State Park

You might consider Slide Rock State Park, about 5-8 miles north of Sedona on Alt 89. If you're traveling with kids I know they would have a great time as they can swim in the stream through some mild rapids and small falls . The scenery is beautiful.

If you are not taking your trailer to Sedona, take 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona. Not an option if you have large equipment. We got along fine with our 26' travel trailer on that road but it is tight in places. Sedona can be very crowded with little to no places to park a trailer in town. Sorry for the late reply, just saw this.
