Look into the TRACRAC now made by Thule. Love it and YES, you can still use your tonneau cover. You can slide the racks off the bed easily when not in use. I have even put a 17' canoe and two 10 foot kayaks on with no issues. Leaves the bed for bikes, wood, grill etc.

Do watch the pickup box method without a rack! Brother in law was carrying two and while turning was OK, turning while going up an incline to a gas station was NOT....poked a hole in the front of the TT

yak rack

Two bumper hitch mounts one on top of bumper one beneath. bike rack in top one, metal bar in lower one and 8 ft schedule 80 pvc as a mast attached to bike rack, Wok welded to bottom metal rod, and kayak mounts vertically. its gone over 10,00 miles with no problems. ratchet straps holding the mast and through scupper holes in the yak. Welded a brace on the bike rack base for extra support and padded the wok with a piece of tire to provide cushion and keep nose of yak from being damaged. it a ten ft kay so does not stick up too far above trailer. Truck has a camper shell and is sloped and tall and is too hard to get yak there. i will try to post photos but having issue with posting them. have to lift yak vertically for about 2 ft to get it into wok holder. if it was a 14 ft rack, might worry about wind and low bridges more!

More photos from duh on the bike/pvc vertical rack. It works. A step ladder helps get all the straps in and so far I can lift the yak straight up to slide into the waiting arms of the bike rack and pvc arms. Weighs 52 lbs if it was much more would be tougher. But, it works. Vibrates some on the road but no problems with design after 10,000 plus miles.

We have a travel trailer (bumper pull) and we always take our 12 ft. fishing kayaks with us when travelling. They are mounted on the Yakima Sportsman 300 system for full size trucks. They are clamped to the bed rail with a "J" bolt system, so they are easily removed if required. They hold 300 pounds securely. They can be had used from Craigslist or the like for around $200-$400 dollars. I also devised a system using 2 ATV winches to pull the boats onto the racks due to bad shoulders. That is what is seen on the front of my truck.

Here is another photo that shows a different view. Plus, I installed some old ski racks upside down to hold up to 10 fishing poles!
