Ours came with the LEDs in the awning tube, and they were burnt out when we got it. I replaced them with a RGB set, and added a WiFi controller. I put all the electronics inside the tube. Now I can control the lights with my smartphone from anywhere.
Our previous camper had no awning lights, I added them by running a wire set inside the arm in the opposite channel that the power goes for the awning motor.
In that case, I added a little plug at the tube to unplug before you roll it up. I had to quick unplug it in the rain a few times.

Sounds cool!
So what kit did you use? Link?

We have a Carefree with the white strip on the tube but doing a WiFi or Bluetooth RGB kit I'm interested in

I didn't use a kit, I bought individual components from Superbrightleds.com

Lights

I recently added led strip on the side of the 5er just below the awning. I added another porchlight fixture just above the original and spliced into the wires in the original and ran them into the new fixture, cut the 120 brick off the leds and connected the 12v to the wires from the porch light and had room inside the fixture for the new controller for the remote which enables me to turn the leds off-on from inside the trailer or from the car as we arrive back home after dark. Made a nice clean weather resistant installation. We like it.
