2019 Hideout 177LHS / Roof leak

Hey Guys,

I’ve had my camper for 1.2 years and just noticed water damage due to roof leak. There appears to be tiny cracks in the sealant and black seal. Would have been very difficult to locate until it’s too late. Bringing back to dealer however not sure what the outcome will be. Unreal though, only one year and during winter months I kept inside storage. Not a happy camper here.

Anyone else experience same? I’m feeling like what a waste of money or is this normal for campers since made cheap??? Thanks!

The very first thing I did with my new Alpine was inspect the roof and reseal several areas with self leveling Dicor. This was after Dealership resealed areas I had identified as suspect during POI...

Also... you’ve just got to get up on roof at least twice a year and inspect sealant for voids and reseal before it becomes a leak

With the road vibration, heat changes, settling, etc preventative roof maintenance is key to preventing leaks and other issues..

Hope you get it resolved with minimal water intrusion damage

I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles. Hopefully the damage is not too bad.

This is a great example of why the owners manual says inspect your roof every 6 months. If you find a suspicious area, reseal it.

^^ What they said.

From the photos, it looks like much (maybe all) of the defects in roof sealing would have been identified by a careful inspection of the roof (as required by the owner's manual) and is an "Owner Responsibility" not a "factory responsibility". That's not to say the factory didn't "screw up" or that the "dealership didn't do a thorough PDI" rather it's to say that "those wrongs" don't absolve the owner of doing his "due diligence".

I don't suspect that you'll get Keystone to admit responsibility or help with any "out of warranty" repairs. At this point, the most important step is to immediately reseal the roof so future leaking is prevented, then inspect for the extent of damage and work to resolve that issue.

It wouldn't hurt to notify the dealership and Keystone and see if they will aid in repairs, but I wouldn't hold out much hope that they would get involved at this point. I'd suspect they will both say, "The owner did not accomplish his required roof inspections, so any assistance is not warranted".
