add on remote control for Cougar Fifth Wheel
Hello, I have learned alot of this from this forum, so thanks to everyone for postings. I have a question. Our neighbour just bought a new 5th Wheel, and he has a remote control to operate absolutly everything. I think that this is really cool. Is it possible to have an add on remote control for your existing 5th Wheel? To control the landing gear, the slide, docking lights etc? This would be a cool thing to have. I have a 2007 Cougar 281BHS and really like the trailer now that all the problems are fixed with it. Mostly, a bad dealer who would fix one thing and break another.
Thanks in advance.
Dean

Dean:
I suppose it might be possible to convert the landing gear, slide, etc., to remote but the cost of this conversion would be something to consider unless you are handy and can install the components yourself. If you have deep pockets and a genuine desire to be "really cool" then go for it. Not having a remote can be cool too.

The remote is a Lippert product. I found a single pc board in the compartment with the landing gear that seems to be the whole thing. All the power lines for the slides, landing gear, and awning terminate on the board, and there is a little antenna hanging off it. All of the circuitry is potted in some kind of gel material.
Since the whole thing seems to be a single board, it should be relatively easy to install. The toughest part would probably be locating and rerouting or extending all the power wires for the various slides, etc.
The system is listed in the Lippert catalog. They also offer some other remote controlled stuff like leveling systems.

The remote isn't as useful as it looks and is more of a gimmick than anything else (IMO.) I lost mine and haven't even bothered to replace it.

I find the remote very convenient, and use it all the time.

Thanks for the info. It may look into something mainly for the front landing gear. I use a level inside to level, so using a remote could be useful.
Now a remote entry lock is a neat idea. Now you got me thinking again! My wife says that dangerous when I start to think, owell.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the Catalog.. Lots of good things in there...
Steve: How do you like your Cougar 326MKS? I have been thinking about upgrading now that the kids dont come along with us as much.
Moderator's Note:
If you think that your question has been adequately answered and you are now going on to another topic (asking for opinions on the Cougar 326MKS) , perhaps you could start a new thread rather than switching topics mid-stream??
Thank you.
