City water connection noise

We recently bought a 2005 outback 5er. The camper is in great shape for the age, but I realize it is older now. We are on our first trip with it and I noticed when using the city water is being used there is an odd hum from the connection. I put water in the holding tank and turned the pump on and there is a small but steady stream of water coming out of the connection. My thought is there must be a one way valve that has gone bad. Does that sound reasonable and does anyone know if it’s accessible by removing the plate where the tank fill, city connection are?

Sounds like you've found the problem. There should be 2-3 screws holding it in place or a big nut on the back side & hopefully enough slack in the water line to pull it out far enough to disconnect. When replacing be sure to replace it with the solid brass one not the plastic, the plastic has a bad habit of breaking off.

If you remove the screen in the city water connection you will see the check valve. It may just have some debris stuck in it but it is very fragile so it may be advisable to replace the entire connection instead of trying to repair or clean.

Right on !!! and yes check valve is fragile. Do not ask how I know Also as stated I would replace the whole thing, do not think there is a repair kit for the check valve only. Humming will be gone

Thanks hopefully that’s the worst problem I’ll have. I guess I’ll be going to town after this trip.
