As already mentioned, document it with photos before doing anything else. It won't hurt to have a yardstick in the picture. That way it's not "He said, he said". You'll have proof.

Why very little on my truck ever gets done by anyone but me

First of all, you need to contact the dealer that installed the hitch, not lawyer up, not threaten small claims court or demand a new bed as that ain't gonna happen. You need to maintain your cool, show up with photos, the truck, a copy of the installation instructions, your receipt in a nice package and find the dealership's owner or at least the top level manager at the site. The service manager or mechanic wont have the ability to correct the screw ups. You then need to present your case in a rational manner with no threats as that wont move him. When this is done and if the dealer wont correct his mistakes, you can then take other actions - but maintaining your cool is important. As far as additional holes in the bed - some short carriage bolts and some touch up paint will fill them in - it IS a pickup truck and it IS expected that the bed will get some marks and other minor dings and that's what any small claims court will tell you regardless of how well you claim in your suit to maintain the like or better than new condition - it is still not a new truck fresh off a dealer's lot.

Another alternative is to find a truck equipment distributor/installer and ask them what they would do and the cost of those corrections. Have them give you a quote and add that to your package. You might find that it may become a dealer to dealer fix that it may be the best way for all parties to go.

What Dave said! Best advice; and I will reiterate, you will not be getting a new bed. But when it is all over I might insist on actually talking face to face with the "technician" and finding out what a numb-nuts looks like.

This facility has an obligation to return the bed to pre-installation condition. Although we all know that pickup truck beds typically get some wear, that "eventual" wear isn't a valid reason not to fix what are probably some significant holes. How they go about repairing it isn't for the OP to specify as long as it's returned to pre-repair condition - or the OP is offered a compromise (such as a patch + bedliner) that he's comfortable with.

Yep, the bed is for me to use and/or abuse as I see fit, not have someone screw it up and then tell me, "Hey, its just a pickup bed." Not pleasant when someone applies their standards to mine. They screwed it up. They need to make it right.

Quite a few years ago I was the manager in a Dealership when a hitch was mounted too far forward and yes it was our fault, it cost my policy account a lot of cash for the replacement of a box, that's what they need to do replace the box. You also should contact your insurance company let them know of the damage that has been done to the vehicle that they are insuring and inquire about making a claim, they will put more pressure on the dealer. good luck. Remember persistence overcomes resistance.

Hard to believe ~~ just too noticeable for anyone that had even a clue of what they were doing to let that out the door.

I'm going to ask them to have that done, they also only used one bolt on each of the frame mounts.

I get the feeling that whatever shop this is, you need to verify their insurance right now.... :-)
