Cleaning the hitch vision on your 5vr

I've seen many cougars with the mirrored surface of the hitch vision dulled from scratches. Any tips on cleaning it with out scratching

You might look into a headlight polishing kit for this. I know that mirror is plastic with a reflective film on it so that may work on it.

Howdy All;

Used to be able to buy Plastic Polish in the auto motive Dept.
Before it became a "headlight polishing kit" and the price went
up accordingly...

Sorry, let me re-phrase. Mines brand new, I'm looking at ways to clean it to avoid scratching the new surface. My guess is that people wipe the road grime off and use windex or some other glass cleaner which damages the surface and over time they scratch it. To keep mine looking new is it as simple as rinse well first, and maybe avoid harsh glass cleaners since its plastic not glass?

Because it is located on the front of the RV, it will be subjected to considerable "abuse" from road spray, dirt, bugs, etc., and will be difficult to keep it in as-new condition. A good rinse beforehand and using lots of warm water in a mild detergent should help get most of the grime off. As suggested above, using a good quality plastic cleaner will help protect it temporarily.

OK, better understanding of your question.

I'd say if you really want to keep the existing mirror in good shape, you'd want to put a protective coating or something over the mirror so that it does not scratch.

Some of my RV friends have had good luck using a product called "helicopter tape" which is a tough material that will stand up to abuse and not yellow in the sunlights. In particular, on TT's they used it to cover the logo on the front window rock guard which takes a heck of a beating from sunlight and road stuff.

Here's a link to one manufacturer's product which they market as Racers Tape: http://www.racerstape.com/heli.html

(Usual disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the company, but I do know several folks who have used this product with great success for a variety of purposes.)

Go to a cycle shop and pick up some Nolan lense cleaner. It is used to clean lense covers on helmets and comes in three different grades of cleaning and polishing. I use it on my full face helmets. Jay
