AGM batteries with 5er charger?
If I switch to 6 volt AGMs, will the charger in the 5er work to charge them up since they are 6 volt AGM and not regular batteries? Is it different with solar?

I have 2 6v Trojans which accept a charge from both the converter and our solar panel. Since the batteries are wired so that they are in effect 12 volts, the converter and the solar panel doesn't see them as 6volts. I've had no problems charging them or with the batteries maintaining the charge.

Thank you for the reply, however more specifically I was asking the question not because they are 6 volt but because they are AGM rather than the acid kind

From all I've read it will not harm them at all.

AGM's charge just like free-acid batteries, which they basically are. They just have their acid ABSORBED in a GLASS MAT (AGM). They ARE an acid battery, they just don't slosh, and a nice side benefit is they produce much less gas while charging.

DO they need to be vented or can I enclose them in a box? The battery folks at Battery Plus told me there is no need to vent them because they are enclosed>>

Everything I've learned about them tells me they produce almost zero gas and can be enclosed without a problem. I THINK (not sure) Optima claims their battery can even be mounted on its side. -- What size are you using and how much $$ ? I have 6v golf cart batts. -wet- and am thinking about going the AGM route when its replacement time. I think they are around $250 each.

Lifeline (I hear are the best) are $300 a piece for the 6 volts. I'm going with 4 of them

5Mary6 -
Very impressive stats on the Lifeline batteries and; according to the write-ups, seem like an excellent battery. Not only well-made but also very pricey! At $300 apiece, I hope they live up to their reputation and you get good results from them.

Are you going to install an inverter with the solar system? I had the big battery bank/inverter/solar on my last trailer and kind of miss it at times. How many watts of panel are you thinking about ? I had 200 and consider that a bare minimum.
