26SAB Bumper Recall completed

The bumper recall fix has been completed on our 26SAB 5th Wheel. The “kit”, which took 4 weeks to arrive at my dealers, consisted of 4 pieces of angle iron and 2 pieces of box tubing.

When the service manager saw the contents of the kit he could not believe that Keystone didn’t simply email him the specifications for the angle and box tubing which he could have acquired locally.

One piece of angle is welded on each side of where the frame joins the bumper. The piece of box tubing simply fills the gap as the bumper height exceeds the frame height. Welding does not appear to be the service technicians strong point, but it is consistent with the quality of the factory welds.

Bumper broken.

My 2010 Cougar 5th wheel has more problems! Cannot believe the shoddy workmanship and inferior materials used on this trailer! I have been a full-timer for 25 years and this is my 5th 5th wheel, the most expensive and the worst!!!
Shower leaks everywhere, broken bumper, battery charger going out, leaks in the slideouts because of inferior sealant and drilled holes with no screws, broken fridge temperature control, broken front door lock, slideout mechanism locking up....! Some heads need to roll at Keystone....

I had mine done by my dealer before the recall was ever announced. Took it back in the fall and they did pretty much what your picture shows- only neater. Never have received notification about the recall!!

Bought my 2012 26sab in Virden, Mb in summer of 2011. Immediately had problems with the bumper. Had it rewelded and the metal gave way almost immediately. The dealer rewelded again, put the spare tire under the belly of the front of the trailer at no cost to me. Added a receiver hitch, welded to the frame to handle the bike rack, at my cost. Heard about a recall to the 2011 model almost a year ago. Not sure why the recall on the 2012 was only issued now as the 2 model years are basically the same. Not sure if there is any benefit to having the recall work done as our fixes have rendered the weak bumper inconsequential. The dealer is 3 1/2 hrs west of us and as work will take 1 1/2 hours to complete we may stop and have it done on our way to Cyprus Hills this summer.
