Retractable Awning

Hey y'all! Out here in west Texas where it's always a bit breezy - at what wind speed do I need to consider bringing my awning in?

I know that it can stand a little bit of a breeze, but I definitely want to make sure I'm not pushing the limits. Current wind speed is 10mph with gusts up to 20 mph. I've brought it in for now, but figured I would jump in here to see what the collective opinion is.

I have seen “automatic” awnings retract in as little as 5MPH based on adjustable settings.

JMHO, if you’re questioning it, bring it in.

If it rattles enough to disturb my sleep, I bring it in!

I live in W TX where it blows more than S Antonio (no trees). The awning is OK in 10mph, maybe 15 if that is ALL there is. Problem here with 15mph winds is that in 10 minutes a couple of 30mph gusts may come through and break the awning.

I leave it out here in TX if the day looks pretty nice and I'm there all the time. If I leave it goes in. If it gusts once it comes in. You can watch it and tell. It can ruffle a bit and be fine. When the wind is blowing enough that it's picking up the fabric and raising the arms then dropping them it's time, or about time, to pull it in. In other places (states) it's not as bad as it is here so be careful. Last fall I saw one whip of wind (this is in FL) come in and flip a guy's awning up then whip down and collapsed it (he was gone) so keep an eye on it.

if the awning wiggles bring it in. And NEVER leave it out when not there or at night. A sudden weather change can cause wind shift and pop up storms.
