Finally finished the cover and slab.

Just finished adding 2 ft of concrete all the way around the existing slab. Cover is 40'x18' and keeps the sun and rain off. Good to have it in the backyard in case we may have to evacuate for a hurricane in a hurry!

Thanks guys...glad I have a corner lot to make it easier to back in.
A load of dirt to level to the top of the slab and I'll be finished...I hope!!

I can assure you of this: Most every one of the members here are green with envy right now. First because you built this, and second because you have the room to put it! Good on ya, fella!

Looks great!

I have been meaning to build a cover for mine and you have motivated me to get more serious about the project.

This is what it looked like before we started...we had to conform to the subdivision rules and make the cover match the house. The paint had to match and I ordered some faux brick panels to make the columns. Wife and I are happy about the way it came out. Found out it's better to go with a wider and longer slab if you have the room. Thanks again everyone!!

Wife ordered the cover online and once it arrived it only took 1/2 day to errect it by a crew out of Dallas. We set it on cinder blocks that my son in law and myself laid down. Not a good support enough for me so we poured a larger addition to the slab to support it right. Jacking and blocking up the cover was done by myself and my son in law and also setting it down on the concrete and bolting it down. Being close to 70 yrs old with COPD I can't do too much work like years ago but can still order material and pick it up with my utility trailer...like wood for the forms..re-bar and that type of stuff. A buddy of mine and myself ran 50 amp service from my garage panel to a 4x4 post...I dug the trench and that almost killed me! Wife and I over the years built 2 houses(sub-contracted)and did as much work ourselves while working full time jobs. Always the satisfaction of doing it yourself if you can!

This is how it sat on cinder blocks before we added to the slab.

Nice job...looks like more then enough area to back in the trailer. I bet that pipe gave you a workout getting it vertical to set in the ground. I guess some crushed limestone will work if you can't go with concrete. And you're right about keeping heat and rain off the tops of these RV's!

Did a little online shopping last night. I'm thinking a 15x40 with two full walls to block drifting snow on the south and west side and a partial wall on the east side. The open end will face north. Now I just have to decide exactly where to put it so I can run 30A service from the well pump house. I've put this off long enough.

You may want to consider one that's 18' wide...more room on each side to get around if the slideout's are open. More access to clean..wax or work on the sides of the trailer also. Just a thought!

ID:	10603 I hired the neighbor to help dig hols. I welded 3 inch heavy tubing with rebar welded to 11 12x12 plates I centered all the 12 inch plate with the tubing in the holes and cemented them. I welded a stud in the center of each plate and set the 15 ft 4 in pipe over the stud and braced it and level welded it up first with 5 p to preheat then using LH 7018 . I also welded 1/2 gussets for each up right. Its square with in 1 in of each corner.

That's a good thought that I'll take into account. When in doubt, go bigger.
