How big of problem?

Took my 247BHS Bullet out on it first run. Everything worked great. Leaving the campground I went to the dump station and this is when things went wrong. I took the cap off to hook up my sewer hose and when I took off the top it come gushing out. Both the black and gray levers were open. I am guessing they were open since I purchased it. I quickly closed both levers and hooked up the hose and everything went fine after that. My question is with both tanks open do I need to do anything? The black water only had been used about 4 or 5 times just to pee.

just wash your hands

you should be fine. remember black first, then gray (just to help in rinsing out your hose)

After years of RVing I finally did that last year, forgot to close the galley tank. If your like me you will now check each valve handle before taking the cap off.

Go out and buy yourself a twist on valve that u put on the end of your sewer line then connect your hose to that

I did the exact same thing on our first outing with our Bullet. Both tanks started emptying out all over my feet and lower legs. Talk about a lesson learned. Now I never remove the cap without making sure both valves are closed.

As you can see, even those of us with lots of years of RVing under our belts can make this kind of mistake. Several good suggestions have been made and I will offer one.

A while back I thought my black dump gate might be leaking because I got a small amount of liquid out of the port when I removed the cap. So I switched to a cap that has a standard male garden hose connection molded into it with a plastic end cap attached. That allowed less "stuff" out, but it was messy removing the threaded cap. So I went back to the store and bought an inline shutoff and put that on. Then, when I wanted to check for liquid in the pipes before dumping, I pulled the small cap and opened the little valve just part way. If no drip, the pipes are dry. I took this pic before I added the shut-off.

This also has the benefit of being able to conveniently drain gray water into a dump tote when we dry camp for several weeks at a time.

When I changed the dump cap, I also went from a cap with two fingers on it to one with four. It grabs all four of the nubbins on the dump port and makes a much more secure connection. All of my dump hoses and fittings are now that way.

Oh the price we pay for education, and some lessons learned stay with us better than others. As you can tell, we've all been there. Enjoy the TV - we love our Bullet, and it works great with the Grandkids.

So I read this thread to my husband and he looked in the Keystone Owners Manual. He has a question. The book says to put the chemical deodorant after you empty the black and grey tanks. We weren't planning on doing that until we hooked up again on our next trip. When do all of you add it?

I don't add any chemicals or water until I am set up and ready to camp. Haven't had any issues yet. If I stay long enough to need a dump before we leave, I just dump and then add water and chemical again.

After I dump the tanks and use the flusher, I'll add a little water and several "squeezes" of Dawn blue dishwashing soap in all the tanks.
If I know I'll be camping without access to a sewer dump for several days, I'll add chemicals.

Lots of existing posts on that going back several years if you'd like to look around a bit. This topic gets discussed every few months and it's pretty much the same every time.

I use the Thetford liquid stuff most of the time, but the fabric softener is beginning to appeal more.
