Maybe Im recalling a a thread on here wrong... but I thought there is something that you have to do every time you go out on a trip to the water heater?

And since were on the subject ... what are good routine things to do on every trip?

I drain my water after a trip if I'm not going out for a couple weeks. I've found that my water smells funny if I don't. This includes the hot water heater. I just put the rod out and drain it through there. I also sanitize my water system usually twice a year. Once after dewinterization and the 2nd time about 1/2 way through the season.

I do both because I figure that it's easy and cheap to do so why take the chance.
