Camper value :(
We went looking at diesel pushers over the weekend and looks like we will be keeping the Raptor awhile longer,We where going over the parker work and when they got to the trade in value of our 2013 Raptor 384pk (which we have only had 2 years) they only offered us $32,000 on our camper which we paid $82,000( that is to big of a loss for me to swallow right know) and still have $50,000 to pay on it.So looks like yall are stuck with me for awhile

Mike,
The low retail on your Raptor (base model) is $51K and the average retail is $61K. Apparently that dealer either has a "clean" sale prospect on that motorhome or he is trying to "steal" your Raptor. $32K is a 25K lowball. I wouldn't trust that dealership with anything in the future, hell, they're worse than sharks......

That is a serious lowball, I got $24k on my 2008 Jayco 291RLTS that listed for 52 new. I would check somewhere else. Private party isn't always better, just depends on what you get. Saving sales tax on $50k worth of trade in is tough to make up on private sale.

The problem is these kind of figures are really meaningless. You don't mention what the dealer was charging for the pusher. If he is giving you a big discount then he will give you a low figure for trade in. Many people brag about the way they got a huge trade in amount but don't tell you they also paid full retail or close to it for the new rig. You really have to know the actual trade-in value and actual reasonable sale price of the new rig to know if he is ripping you off.
I'm sure you are making a wise decision, though. You will take a huge hit on a two year old trade-in no matter how the dealer manipulates the figures.

Good point and very valuable info. In my case, 24K wouldn't have been that great if I had paid full retail (wouldn't have bought the RV), but I got a good trade amount and $30k off of retail.

Trade in Value ?
If you really want to be frustrated or angry, just read the posts about what someone paid for their new RV. What they can't and don't tell you is the real price, but honestly who knows what the real price is for many of these units.
We've all gone to some RV show and there will undoubtedly be some RV with a 'List Price' of $89,000, with the price marked through, and it's selling for $64,999 - today only! You mention you have a 5 year old trade in, and no matter what model you have, it will be $10,000 less than what the book value shows. There is a lot of margin in RV's, and while the dealers can show great "deals", we honestly know a dealer isn't going to lose money on 99% of their offers. Everyone tries to comparison shop, but it is often it difficult to get a real apples-to-apples comparison, like when you go buy a new truck.
With an RV purchase, we just need to be satisfied with our deal and what we got.

I always work on the DIFFERENCE. You don't pay tax on the value of the trade in so that always helps. I first get the price "Out the door" of a new truck / trailer. Then I ask again what the "Out the door" price is with a trade in.
The difference is what you are really getting for your trade. There is no way for them to fast talk numbers. Do this at several places then choose based on price & after sale support.

I pretty much work the price of the RV down to what I am happy with, then the price for the trade has to be fair market based on what comparables are selling for. All dealers tell you if you are getting more for your trade you are paying more for the new one or vise versa, Work the numbers separately and what you end up with in the end is the difference that you can't complain about, you paid a fair price for the new one and worked a fair deal on the trade.

As was stated you have to have to play from the same side of the fence. You cannot expect to pay wholesale price yet expect retail price for your trade. Due the due dilligence prior to working out your deal. When we purchased our last TT on the way to the dealer, 3 hours away, my wife and I discussed a number. I told her anywhere between 15,000 and 16,000 difference and I would sign. I knew what my trade was worth with the value of the sales tax added in but was not certain as to how much of a further discount we could negotiate. I told the dealer to give me a bottom line price as to how much I had to write the cheque for. How creative he worked the numbers was of no concern to me. I was only interested in the bottom line. Also told him I would say yes or no to him and would not counter offer. He gave me a number right to the dollar of our low end expectation. Signed on the bottom line and the rest was history.
