Raptor front jack clearance when towing

My DW and I are about to take our new 384PK out for the first out of town trip. However, I am concerned about the clearance between the front jacks and the ground. I had to buy a new hitch that would raise the height 5" over what I had before just to get more than 4" clearance.

Has anyone else been concerned with the front jack clearance on these new drop frame units? If so did you raise the front jacks? I wonder how that would affect the travel to lift the pin box of the hitch?

I tow with Firestone air bags at 90 psi on my 2007 Chev 2500 4x4. When connected it drops the truck about 2"

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I have a 2014 Raptor 415TS and had the same problem. I look at them and it looks to low, but it hasn't hit yet. I also have airbags and run them with 90 - 95 lbs in them. I take it easy and watch what I'm doing. I do see the jacks have adjustments, maybe its as easy as raising the jacks.

Jlensi thanks for your thoughts. I think I will try moving the jacks up one hole and see if that helps

Raptor front jack clearance when towing.

I Purchased a 2014 415ts in march, when we loaded it on the truck (2011 F350 Dually) it set the truck down. I was concerned but towed it from Oakwood Ga to my home and had no problems. I did put a set of airbags and run @55 lbs and have no problems now. Hope this helps.

Pull the pin and lift the foot pads all the way up then retract the legs all the way up. After doing this mine are no where near the ground.

Lets see 2007 2500 HD approximately 9200 GVWR and your pin weight about 3500 lbs something should be near the ground

Thanks for the reply. My truck has the bags over the springs so the bed height is higher when hitched than stock without the trailer hooked up. The jacks on this trailer are hydraulic with no pins and attached to a drop frame below the previous years straight frame.

I did solve the issue by dropping the pin box (had to remove the front pin box painted cover though). I now have about a foot of clearance.

+1 ! ! I can't see how the jacks can be near the ground unless you aren't retracting the legs by pulling the pin and raising the foot up.

+1 ! ! on the truck size too. Really? You're towing that camper with a tiny little 2500?

Hi Jager, the hydraulic jacks on the newer Raptors do not have the pin and adjust system as the older ones do. They use the Lippert 6 way hydraulic auto leveling system. Unfortunately, they drop the frame in the front below the level of the rest of the trailer to create a larger storage compartment and this is what they bolt the front jacks to. I have attached an image of the system from Lippert.

Now on the truck, it has a fifth wheel tow rating of 14,700 lbs but when I am loaded I will be 1,000 lbs over tow weight. Looking to get a 3500 in the near future.

I have not seen the new setup and didn't realize the "new and improved" system eliminated the nice pins that allow you to raise the jack feet in 2 seconds. Next time I'm near a dealer I'll have to stop in and take a look at this. Thanks for the heads up.

As for the truck . . . is it rated for 14,700? Sure. Can the Dmax pull that kind of weight? Absolutely, doesn't even break a sweat. Can the size of that truck handle a nice 30mph side wind blowing against a 40+' x 14' 15,000lb sail? I own a 2500 D-max also and have pulled heavy with it. I think you are a very smart man to be looking at moving to at least a 3500. The dual rear wheels (if you get them) will help with stability and holding the road a great deal.

Man I wish I had that set up!! I too had to step up on the Tow Vehicle. I had a 2002 F350 CC LB SRW and now have a 2006 F550 CC LB DRW. Huge difference in towing, breaking and stability. These triple axle Raptors are not light. This 550 is also equipped with the Link Ultra Ride rear air system which replaces the standard leaf springs with Simi truck style air bags. It sure helps the ride and with the "Dump" option it makes hook up and un hook a breeze!!
