Outdoor Kitchen Problem

I have to admit my first weekend out was very good. Only 2 items of concern:
[*]small water leak - probably from the city water hookup
[*]outdoor kitchen door has the strut pulling out of the door panel

I am not too worried about the water issue since the city water fill is made of plastic, it looks like it just had some strain on it and caused the leak. I will need to brace this up and all should be good.

The problem I am concerned about is why the strut bracket is pulling out of the door alrady after only 3 days of use. It looks like this is screwed into a piece of fibre board.
Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do to fix it? I assue the same concept is used on the Laredo 303TG or the Bullet Premier etc.

Oh, and yes we all had a blast in the trailer and did recieve alot of compliments. Seems to me that alot of people have not seen the outdoor kitchen fad that started last year....

I HAD the same city water leak problem, fixed twice & still leaked. Finally the dealer replaced the cheep plastic fitting with a brass one...problem solved!

I'm jealous of the outdoor kitchen, added alot of weight for me with a Yukon that I didn't want. Luv'd everything about them. Sounds like the mount for the strong arm is off where it should be putting too much pressure on that mount. Good Luck and Congrats

Dew my brackets also twisted out of the door, also on a buddys Cougar. So we welded the original brackets to a flat piece of metal and repainted it. Almost looks factory. The brackets were not even in the same place either, from the factory.

My new brackets are pretty close to factory position: need clearance for the struts.

The metal was 4"x8"

Now the problem is the door is 95% styrofoam. It hard to tell during the daylight, but the very left and right sides (top to bottom) have wood. At night open your outside kitchen door and look at the very left and right sides. You can see the there must be a 1"x4" running top to bottom. With this pic that puts it on the 3.5" mark to the outside.

Next time I would use a 3"x8" and keep it flush with the long "L" side of the bracket and use 6-8 screws. I'm only using 4 of the 8 and have not had any problems
(installed 1 year ago), probably because of the bigger footprint.

Thanks for the info and pictures. I have contacted my dealership and will see what they say before diving into this mod. Maybe I should suggest something like this if they come up with a lame excuse....

You may try just adding a 45 or 90 degree hose adapter for the city water hookup. That may relieve some of the strain.

Well, I received an email from my dealership yesterday in regards to the outdoor kitchen issue with the hinges pulling from the 'foam' door.

They told me that a whole new door was being ordered. The new door design apparently has some brace for the pistons. I can only hope that this will work out better than what was there before. (if not I have The ability to do what Slimshadie suggested)

Unfortunately it may take 4-6 weeks to deliver.
Possibly our friends at Keystone have had enough issues with the door design across all product lines that a redesign was completed to stop the 'early field failures'.

I'll take a picture when I get it and let you know how it works out.

That's what I did and it did remedy the problem. I just leave the 90 on all the time. I looked at the setup to see what would be needed to replace the cheap plastic fitting with a good one, but the walls are only about 2" thick and I have no idea how the water line is run behind the connection. Would someone please post a photo of how they replaced the fitting?
Come on, Keystone.. Would it have really cost you that much to put a quality part on knowing the issue your's would cause and the difficulty in changing it out?

Do you have a manufacturer and part number for that fitting?

I have not changed it out yet, but if I do I'll be sure to pass it on.

291 tg

Well, as an owner of a 2010 291 TG, I can tell you that our outside kitchen door broke on our first trip out in june 2010. We went around and around until finally meeting at our local camper show with the brand manager for the laredo brand. we cornered him(mostly me ) and we were able to finally get someone that had some ideas on how wrong the orig design was and how to fix ours. We took our camper in 2 weeks ago and am glad to report that we were given a new door that is "lined" with some metal and all new hardware and decals. Going to pick it up this week and we will let you all know. My fingers are crossed that it actually works now.

I would be interested to see how it works and what it looks like.
I have a new door on order and there is supposed to be some new bracing to fix the issue. Lets see if it is true...

Dew, what is the manufacture date of your 291TG? I have a TG as well, but have not had any problems with the outside kitch door. My one year anniversary with the camper is coming up and I want to be sure anyproblems are taken care of before the warranty is up.....less than a month.

Dixonlaredo,

I purchased a 2011 303TG this past May, the first trip out the strut screws pulled out of the kitchen door. They have not fixed the problem yet, atleast not on the 303TG model. You might want to check into it before your warrenty is up.

Now I Know

Whatever this is worth > When we were looking at new campers a few months ago we looked at a few with outdoor kitchens. Both times the sales rep would raise the door and hold it up, never turning loose of it and would not allow me to operate it. I asked if that was as high as it goes and why do you always hold them and his reply was "yes" and "it's easier for me to get it back down this way". He knew it would fall apart and didn't want me to see it happen. It seemed very suspicious at the time and now I know the rest of the story.

I have not had any issues with my 291TG yet. I always look at it though, because of the comments.
