Newbie in Apollo Beach, FL

Hi all, proud owner of a 2021 Alpine 3712KB. Lived in it full time for about 4 months and now it’s just for glamping! Recently made our first vacation trip to Cathedral Cavern State Park in Alabama. Beautiful and highly recommended! Pulling my beauty is my 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4. That beast pulled my rig like it wasn’t even there. That Duramax is no joke! Great trip until we had 2 china bombs within seconds!

Anyways, HI 👋

Welcome! That is a big camper for a 3/4 ton truck. 41.5' and 16,440 lbs. That camper would generally be pulled by a dually with those specs. Drive safe.

The only mode to the truck are the airbag spring helpers. Trans ran cool, 9.5 mpg and really didn’t struggle at all. Thanks for the welcome

The short pole in the tent is not the pulling power. The pin weight for that trailer based on gross weight is about 3700 lbs. Add weight of hitch, passengers and cargo and you are well over 4000 lbs. There is a yellow placard in your door frame which tells you the max cargo/passengers your truck was designed to carry and the airbags, while keeping the truck/camper level have weight which just adds to the amount of loading. Not to be negative but if you are in a wreck, the law enforcement and insurance adjusters notice this stuff.

What George is trying tactfully to tell you is you have just the right engine and half enough truck for the rig you have. I realize all your 3/4 ton truck friends are driving ‘beasts,’ but in the real world George hit it on the head with the ‘dually territory’ comment. Just as a favor to yourself and to other members run through the CAT scale and list the numbers. They make for eye-opening conversations.

Next time it’s on the road, mid-March, I will go through the scales at the TA across the street from where I will be going. My research had me thinking that the numbers we’re different from what y’all are thinking so the scales will say. Thanks for the feedback! Cheers
