Me and the CFO are going to the Calgary RV show this afternoon. Last thing she said before going to bed was, "bring your money."

We went to the RV show yesterday, disappointing. I was expecting more vendors of ancillary merchandise. There wasn't much.

We did however verify that our purchase of the 1800RB was the correct one for us. We saw 6 or 7 other TT's in the 2500 to 3500 weight range while there. All were priced higher, some much higher than the 1800. With out exception they all had less room inside, even the murphy models. All had smaller bathrooms and less storage.

One of the selling points of our 1800 to the wife was the large sink. None of the small TT's came even close. She showed me one with what could not even be considered a bar sink, about 8" x 8". Lots of the larger TT's could not match the size of our sink.

Oh well, it was a trip to the Big Smoke and we went out to dinner after.

Most of the camping we will be doing will be without electric hook-up. Right now have one 12v deep cycle battery and I will use that this year. When it fails I will go with two 6v cart batteries. I know the one battery I have will not last me 3 or 4 days without some kind of charging so I got this solar panel today,

It is a Coleman 40 watt portable, Regular $269 on sale for $99 at Canadian Tire. It's not high output but is a good start until I can see what our requirements are. A friend of mine has the same one and since he got it has not run out of juice.

I am sure you you will get many opinions , I went with the below. I would also go with another cheap 12V car battery. I do not think 1 battery will hack it. I would bet you will get at least 2 years on the cheaps battery if not 3 years.

100 watt solar panel 107USD

Probably good products for a good price.

I bought the 40 Watt, light weight, cheap and not a long term solution. My Son has as 400 watt on the roof of his TT, lots of power.

I WILL use the one battery this year and maybe the next, and maybe the next.

The end game is for two 6 volt cart batteries. What I have for solar is up in the air, so to speak . . . . . . .

With all of the tire talk on the forum I started thinking about the process when I get new tires in the Spring. I looked up the torque values attached to my 15" wheels with 9/16" stud as shown in my owners manual. I was surprised at the step-process outlined there.

In three places they say to check torque before every trip.

After a wheel has been removed and replaced on a hub there is a 6 step process they have outlined. Using a star pattern there are three levels of torque to go through before you can move the trailer.

1st --> 50-60 ft lbs.
2nd--> 90-100 ft lbs.
3rd --> 140-150 ft lbs.

Once you are on the road they want you to re-torque 3 more times.
After 10 miles, after 25 miles and after 50 miles.

Well,its all about safety. If you spend as much time of metro freeways as I have you will see trailers of all types with a missing wheel and tire at some point.
Some have the wheel still attached to the brake drum, those happen when the wheel bearings failed and the driver not knowing. Others just the wheel and tire are somewhere down the road. Those came off from improperly torqued nuts, mostly. Torque them down and use a wrench that shows you tension. That means get a torque wrench. I have found loose nuts at the first mileage stop, not later but, I still check.. Good news if it does happen the wheel and tire usually pass you and you get to see where they crash. Hope its not into another vehicle.

Also the proper way to check/retorque is to back it off slightly then retorque. To just constantly retorque will eventually break off the stud. One more thing, once removed/torqued drive XX miles & retorque it's not necessary to keep retorquing at every stop, a couple times is sufficient.

I needed a campfire poker for the trailer so over the last two days I put together one. Actually I did 4, once you start cutting and grinding you might as well. Already one of them has flown the coop to a buddy's TT.

Made out of ½" round hot roll, 40" long with 3" spacing between the points. I used to use 3/8" hot roll but it was not sturdy enough. I heat stained it with a tiger torch and spayed it with Rustoleum clear coat.

One more thing done and in the trailer.

Just finished going through the latest flyer from my favourite store, Princess Auto, like Harbor Freight only North of 49.

They have a sales catalogue come out couple of weeks. Here is the one from Feb 6 to 18. Remember prices are CAD.

https://www.princessauto.com/en/current-sale/flyer

There is a email sign up at the end of the flyer if you want to watch for items. Yes they do ship to the US. There are 43 locations across Canada from Newfoundland to BC. If you are coming North this summer drop into a store and wander around for a couple of hours and enjoy yourself.

I have been shopping at PA since 1965 when it had only one store in Winnipeg Manitoba. They dealt in surplus military gear. I remember one time you could buy a Jeep for $900. I still have a surplus air tank from the Canadian Airforce that I have used on four trucks for my air horns.

They manufacture their own hydraulic systems in their factory in Winnipeg. Most of the stuff is off shore but they stand behind everything. Broke, take it back, don't like the colour, take it back, you wore it out, take it back.

Picked up this Battery Disconnect Switch today. Put it on the shelf with all of the other stuff waiting to be installed when the weather warms up.

https://www.princessauto.com/en/deta...ch/A-p8547457e

I remember a post last month covering off the pros and cons of connecting it on either positive or negative cable. I can't remember what the outcome of that discussion was.

Oh, by the way, stay where you are down South, this was my back yard last Wednesday !

I just had a look at my backing plates on the axle. There are two adjustment slots on each one but no rubber plugs in them.

Is that normal not to have plugs ?

My backing plates have rubber plugs. They may not come as OEM from Keystone, I don't recall whether there were any when I changed out my brakes. You can buy them at any auto parts store for about 75 cents each.

I'll pick up some as I will be tearing into the drums to re-pack the bearings and check the brakes in the Spring. That assumes that Spring is coming.

I took my tractor (complete with chains and PTO snowblower) to the dealership a week ago to be serviced and get it ready for spring. Little did I know that we'd get 6" last night, 8" today and another 10+ forcasted for tonight/tomorrow.... Thankfully I have a snowblower and a plow for the RZR, so I'm not trying to shovel it all.

Spring? I recall every year, about this time, wondering if it'll ever get here.... Another 4 or 5 weeks and maybe it will all be melted, but the "dustings" will continue through April, May and maybe even into early June. I can't count the number of "late June tomato plants" that have frozen on the vine, even under gallon milk jugs for protection.....

Around here it does turn nice in April, but. At 4300' ASL we can get snow in May and June but it does not last long. I grow tomatoes in pots so I can drag them in the garage should we get frost or snow.

I moved here in 96'. In 97' the only month that we did not have snow was February !

Looking at backup / rear vision wireless cameras and came across this one on Amazon.ca for $84 CAD.

https://www.amazon.ca/Wireless-Monit...+backup+camera

They said a range of 200 meters which I thought was a bit of a exaggeration. I asked the vendor about it and they said the was in a straight line with no obstacles. They indicated that installed on a RV or truck and TT that it would have a range of 25 meters.

Has anyone bought and installed one of these Car Rover cameras ?

Looks good but I haven't heard anything about them, though I will mention that I just purchased a 7" screen GPS and its huge so if you have a GPS or tire monitor also on the dash or windshield, you might consider how much real estate they all take up.
