Cougar 25DBSWE Dometic refrigerator not working

Hey guys,

So I’m planning on a trip this weekend, I started going through everything to make sure all is working fine. I noticed when I opened the refrigerator the light didn’t come on. I thought maybe since I didn’t have the gas turned on it shuts off. I went and turned on the gas nothing. Plugged into shore power nothing. Started checking fuses and only found two on the exterior lower control board. Has this ever happened to any of you guys??? Any help is appreciated thanks!

Be sure your battery is charged and connected. If you have a battery disconnect switch verify it's in the on position. I believe the fridge needs both ac and dc power to run.

Did you also check the refrigerator circuit fuse in the main fusebox?
I'm wondering if you have a frayed 12V wire to your slide. How are your slide ceiling lights?

Fully charged batteries, verified it’s on checked power and have both 120v ac and 12v dc

Verified power with multimeter and all lights work

When I had this issue it was a blown thermal fuse. Follow the two wires from the 'chimney' back to the board and you will see one of them has an inline fuse - look for the piece of black insulation/shrink tube around it. See pic below.

You can test to see if this is the issue by TEMPORARILY removing and bypassing the fuse to check if all is working. NOTE the direction of the fuse before removing.

Here is a link to a replacement

RV fridge need 12VDC to operate the controls. The 120VAC is strictly for the heating element and ice maker if equipped

Did you check the voltage at the batteries with your meter or are you looking at the monitor inside?
The monitor inside will always show fully charged when you're plugged into shore power, it's reading the converter output not the battery's SOC.

I was checking voltage on the backside of the refrigerator. There’s a 120v ac outlet and a 12v dc bus bar next to the circuit board.

I was reading the fridge tech specs for another reason yesterday, and saw that they have a "thermAL fuse" and a "thermO fuse." Gotta love straightforward engineering like that.

Glad it worked out for you!

I've since changed refrigerators to a 12v (and now even the trailer as well, for that matter...lol), but in the year or so after replacing the blown fuse, it never went out again. I suspect mine actually did blow due to excessive heat. My 2872 always gave me problems when I tried to run it on propane, especially while traveling. It would cease to operate at some point, and I'd have to reset the ThermO fuse (the pushbutton one connected to the chimney) when I stopped to set up 'camp' for the day. I think my fridge being installed in the slideout had a lot to do with my heat issues.

I have been watching videos on replacing with a small home refrigerator. Will yours run off your 12v while towing? Did you need to change any electrical?

Yes....I only took two trips with it prior to selling the trailer, longest being a 5-hour drive, but the trailer battery showed 12.7/12.8v upon arrival (as measured at the battery, prior to hooking up to shore power).

From what I've read on f150forum.com, the weak link using just this method is the small gauge charge wire in the 7-pin connector, so instead, many wire in a DC-DC charger or simply run a separate, 8-10 gauge, fused 12v circuit from the truck's battery back to the trailer. For me, I didn't have any charging issues for the length of time I traveled just relying on the 7-pin,
