I have a Toy Hauler and sometimes it just goes on the floor in the garage area between the motorcycles. Other times, if that space is taken up, I put it in the bed of my truck. I wish there was a dedicated spot for it, and the 30' extension cord, but for now, it's one of the two places that I mentioned

We have a huge pass through basement so two 50 amp cords and two 30 amp cords just get rolled up and put on floor. The 30s are rolled tighter and nested inside the 50s.

There are several reels available if you do the search but they are real space hogs from the several that I've seen https://www.amazon.com/MORryde-REEL5.../dp/B00BFU2G6A or http://www.trci.net/products/shoreli...eels-rh54-rl54 to name just a couple of the more popular ones.

When towing the cord is in the bed of the pickup... when not towing the cord is laying on the ground and plugged in at the pedestal and in the receptacle at the back of the trailer... I keep it plugged in while in storage... about the only time I have to worry about storing the cord is when I take the trailer to be repaired... since I don't use a dealer for repairs, I usually just throw it in the garage at home for a couple of days..

Well storage is not much of an issue, if you change to SO cable, this cable has a rubber outer jacket and is far more flexible than the OEM, anaconda cable. I store my 40' 50 amp 4/6 cable in a 3 gal bucket even in freezing temperatures.
First picture is comparison of old 25' OEM and new SO 40'
Second is with my hand on top of 3 gal bucket for size, not holding cable in bucket.
Third picture is the cord in the bucket without my hand.

I use a 16 inch deep clear Tupperware type storage container. It's maybe 16" wide and 32" long. The 50amp cord, a 50amp extension, a 30amp cord, and all electrical adapters go in the box. Sometimes hard to coil up the bigger cords in cool weather but it works for me.
Water hoses same deal in a different box.

Good idea Russ. I think you have posted this before and I keep forgetting to look for 4/6 SO cable.

I have, but it freed up a ton of space in the basement. That and the cable is easy to coil even in freezing weather.

Russ, did you have to make up the SOOW cables or are they available pre-made?

I use the plastic bin method too. Makes it easier to lift in and out of the basement.

Made it myself, got the ends on a going out of business sale. If worried about water tightness, we have been on the Oregon Coast for the last five months.

Just as a bit of info........you'll probably never find a 4/6 cord.....he's got it reversed. 4/6 would indicate 4ga wire with 6 conductors. 6/4 is what you are looking for.....6ga wire with 4 conductors. Having said that, I agree, the SOW or SOOW cord is very flexible, especially compared to the OEM stuff which uses a thermo-plastic outer jacket. In the winter time or cooler weather, the OEM stuff is like trying to bend 1/2" rigid conduit.......pretty easy if you have conduit bender......but the cable.......not so much!

I use the Morryde Easy Spooler cause my arthritic hands protest when I have to roll up and lift the 50amp cord. Check out the link.

Thanks for the link, but worth noting.....it says that it is capable of storing 30' or cord, and many of us have the standard 50' cord that came with the camper.

There is also a version that will store the 50'. It's the Easy Reel - Tall.

Thanks xrated. Russ and I both should have caught that. I have a couple 12/3 SO extension cords I "made up" and they are definitely easier to handle in this frigid Houston weather. LOL

So far my 50ft cord goes on the floor in the garage, 15ft ext cord goes in the compartment where the gas desp hose is. I might look into that SO cable, is that a special order stuff or is it available at Menards or Lowes??

Thanks for all the good ideas. I thought I would try something a little different...an air hose hand crank reel (part # 46342) from Harbor Freight...about $17.00. I have bolted it to the basement floor and so far it works better than I thought it would.

Again, thanks for all the good ideas
John

Another vote for the Morryde Easy reel tall. If you can find a place to mount it, you won’t be disappointed. It stores the 50’ 50amp cable perfectly.

Not sure if its a big deal or not but the 6/4 SOOW cable I'm finding from several manufacturers is only rated for 45 amps. So with that being said, how often could a person exceed the 45 amp cable rating when powering your RV??
