Corps of engineer parks

I recently heard about corps of engineer parks . I'm looking at staying at one along my travels . I'm looking at the east coast Carolina area . Has any one experience the enginee parks? I think the reserve America pass is used the same for national parks.

COE campgrounds are a great place to stay. If you have the National Park Senior Passport, America the Beautiful pass or the Golden Age Passport, then camping fees are 50% of the published fee.

We stayed at one of the COE campgrounds on Kerr Reservoir on the N. Carolina/Virginia line. Plenty good for us.
I look for them when planning a trip. Never been disappointed.

I second the recommendation. It is North Bend Campground in Boydton, VA. Beautiful COE wooded campsites on the reservoir, many of which back up to the water with semi private sand beaches. Folks launch their boats at the campground boat ramp and keep their boat on the beach behind their campsite during their stay. We camp there in the fall. Water is still warm and the fall foliage is beautiful.

We have stayed in a couple of these parks. Generally my impression was that they are very highly developed infrastructure-wise, and usually well maintained. They generally have great roads in the park and well developed and maintained sites. We stayed in one outside Selma AL (I think) and it was very nice. Sorry, I can't remember the name.

The COE RV park named Ortona, located on the Caloosahatchee Canal on highway 80 in south Florida is a great stay. Very, very clean with large sites. 14 day max stay.

Hank thank you for the loan of corps camping second edition book that took a lot less work flipping through the pages seeing camp sites with reviews and phone numbers . I made reservations in NC at Bandits roost and used my national park pass for half off camping . Will get together again at the VFW for pool game .

This post just inspired me to book a June weekend at West Thompson Lake Campground in Thompson CT. Reviews are great and looks like a quiet place to spend a weekend. This will be our first stay at a COE campground.

I have had a long day so......wasn't there a reference to a book on COE parks in this thread? Has the post disappeared or has my brain?
Any way I bought the book on Amazon and it's pretty good:
RV Camping in Corps of Engineers Parks: Guide to 644 Campgrounds at 210 Lakes in 34 States Paperback – January 2, 2019
by Roundabout Publications (Author)
4.2 out of 5 stars

OK. I just thought there was a link or more info than you mentioned. Thanks.
It's a fairly comprehensive book. Easy to use.

We have stayed at a lot of COE parks, anything from primitive camping, to some of them like staying in a privately owned park, including full hookups. To see how campers rate the COE park you are considering, go to http://www.campgroundreviews.com/. To find out the amenities, and what size RV they can handle, go to https://www.recreation.gov/, search for "RV campgrounds". If you don't know the name of the campground, the website can move pretty slowly. I'd suggest searching on campgroundreviews.com first, then go to recreation.gov, to see what amenities are available and what size RV each site will allow. We use recreation.gov to make reservations, since a lot of people know that COE campgrounds are inexpensive, and many have partial or full hookups.

You can get them at any national park and I think you can also order them online.

I got my Golden Age Passport when I turned 62 and I think it was $10 and good for the rest of my life, looks like they have raised the cost to $80 for the lifetime and add a $20 annual. The regular passes are $80 a year and still a pretty good deal if you make use of them.

That is right about the senior pass.

I signed up last night for the lifetime senior pass it was around $90. I will now save 50% that will pay for a lot of fuel. Here in Missouri, the Rec areas are great.

Here is the website to find a park https://www.recreation.gov/
