Electrical outlets

We had a 2017 Laredo 330RL (travel trailer) and we experienced the same issue. We also wondered why they did not put an outlet near the dining room table. I ended up running an extension cord to the table. I considered installing one myself but we traded it in before I got to it.

My guess is that they don’t install more outlets to maintain their perceived low price point for the unit (in English - they are cheap bass terds). They would have to charge you an additional (my guess) $25 per plug on the invoice. I feel your pain!

I guess we got lucky with the Cougar. 2 plugs in the kitchen, 1 at the entertainment center, 1 in the living area, 1 in the bathroom and 1 in the bedroom. Also one in the basement and one outside
Definitely something to look for when deciding on a model and floor plan.

I feel like a fool for complaining about the number of outlets in my Outback 330RL now. The one place that we'd really like to have one is by the dinette. The dinette is on a slide but the entertainment system/fireplace and the outside kitchen are all on the same slide and there are outlets there!

Can't complain how many we have but, the placement. There is one behind the two recliners. I have to use an extension cord to use the outlet.

While this is a valid question, I don't think anyone on this forum walks around in the same vacuum that the designers/builders of some of these trailers do It is inexplicable, but hey, it gives us a reason to pause and reflect (while scratching our head).....thinking, you know, it's SO nice to be so much smarter than the folks that did THIS!

Yeah we have a Cougar High Country 5th wheel and have a lot of outlets, 2 in dinette area, 1 on each side of the bed and 1 on the ceiling for the TV etc and 1 in the basement not to mention the ones in the living room and kitchen. Guess we just got lucky

11 counting the fridge in our older 24' Cougar. Guess they thought that was too many so they cut back in succeeding years.

Electrical outlets

I don't know how many times I would be sitting at the dining table in my Laredo 330RL thinking this...
Now let me see - one electrical outlet at keystones bulk pricing...maybe 50 cents each + 10 LF romex wire add $1.00 + 30 minutes shop labor to perform paneling cut out and wiring at $50/hr adds $25...subtotal cost $26.50.
Add for overhead and profit at 15%...round it up to $30 per outlet.
If my unit had 2 more outlets, $60 more would not have killed the sale.
Instead I would never have thought about it because the outlets would have been where I needed them and I would not be writing about it on the keystone forum.

Could it be the engineers have a finite number of amps available? And they have to stay within the limit?

I have no idea if that’s the case, but I do know the designers/engineers have a bunch of codes, regulations, and specifications that they have to follow.

Just sayin......

Our Laredo has one on either side of the bed. They are below the bed near the floor. I didn't even notice them till several weeks after bringing home the trailer. Sometimes they try and hide them...lol

I think it's the culture of engineering in this country. Most come out of college with no practical experience and get hired (at lower wages due to lack of experience). In the orient and western Europe most engineers are hired out of high school or trade school and their employer will pay for their schooling with a contract that they will work for that company for x amount of years. Typically during that apprenticeship they rotate on the assembly line and learn the ins and out of the operation. I guess it boils down to "it looked good on paper".

Plugs

Good point I agree with chuckster's point about possible limitations.

We really did like the Laredo and I had already figured out how I was going to add the outlet at the dining table - but we did a bad thing - we went to the Fort Worth RV show. DW saw the montana with the full size tub and there was no looking back!

I added 2 duplex outlets to my Cougar

I added two duplex outlets to my cougar in the kitchen area. Both are GFI Protected and have their own circuit breaker. See the link below for more info.

Thank you for your suggestion got out my flashlight and crawled on the floor to no avail, however, I do have one at the dining table so I should count myself lucky!

There is a receptacle in the lower wall on the right side of the bed. (Bathroom wall) My wife uses it for her C-pap. Later today I will snap a picture. Laredo 325RL

There is also another plug in the drawer stack, left side (window side) Plus one for the washer/dryer. We used that one for the silly, it died, vacuum they give you.

We have a 2015 Keystone Laredo 322rl. In the bedroom, besides the outlets on the ceiling by the TV we have 4 other outlets. 2 on either side of the bed. Maybe they used up all of their outlet boxes in 2015 and had to cut short on the following years :-).

Wow, I never thought of looking before we bought our 2015 Laredo 29RKS, I have 1 in the kitchen, 1 behind the entertainment center, 1 in the bathroom and 3 in the bedroom. I would gladly give up 1 in the bedroom for 1 behind the recliners.

We have the same fifth wheel. There is an outlet on the left side of the dresser and another outlet behind the sliding bathroom door.

Plugins

We have a Sprinter 31bhs 2015 model. We have a plug-in under the closets on both sides of the bed. You wouldn’t know they were there unless you looked hard. They are in a dark spot and the outlet covers are dark brown.
What amuses me are the outlets under the kitchen cupboards. The distance between the outlets and the kettle or toaster plugs is about 3” short. We had to make mini extension cords to have them reach. Other than that we have no issues with the number and placement of outlets in our unit.
