2000 325RL Sprinter Converter Problem

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and new to camping. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone on here.

I took my 2000 325RL fifth wheel out for her maiden voyage (at least with me) this past weekend. I hooked her up to shore power and everything worked great for the first night. The next day I lost the fridge, hot water heater, automatic landing gear and pop out power. Lights/fan worked great though.

I did some research and learned a lot about AC vs DC power, so I charged up my battery when I got home (which was completely dead). With a fully charged battery, I got everything back and it worked great.

From what I can tell, the converter isn't working right because the shore power (AC) should've been charging the battery (DC) to keep everything working.

I wAs going to just swap out for a new converter, but when I popped the cover plate off, it wasn't a self contained converter that I had saw in some of the YouTube videos I had found. I don't know how to go about testing it or replacing it for the matter. I attached a pic.

If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Before you start "swapping out parts" take a few minutes, disconnect the battery (completely) from the battery cables, plug in the trailer and using a volt meter, measure the voltage "AT THE BATTERY CABLE CLAMPS"... It should be 13.6 VDC. If it is, then the battery is suspect. If it's not 13.6VDC, then focus on the two fuses located on the converter (reverse polarity fuses) and then on the converter/wiring to the battery cables.

Chances are that the problem lies either with your battery, the cables or the reverse polarity fuses.

Check the battery disconnect. If it's in the "disconnect" position the batteries will not charge. I'd suspect bad batteries as the first step.

If it the batteries and charging circuit are in working order and if the converter charger has failed, it's a simple replacement. The unit is secured in the lower half of the power panel by 4 screws. The power panel will have to be removed in order to access the AC and DC wire connections. Not a hard task though. Follow the previous troubleshooting advice first as suggested.
