Generator Run Time

I am taking my rig to a all day water polo tourney and it is going to be 108 this weekend!! How long should gen be ran before giving it a rest? I thought about bringing my Honda EU3000 for breaks? I dont use the Honda at all any more and thought it would be good to run. Now I do start it every couple of weeks and let run for about 2 beers worth and sometimes plug in a air compressor to put a load on it. BUT anywho.. what do you think run time should be or dont worry about it?

We ran ours quite a bit while dry camping at the dunes over Memorial day weekend. Seems like it would only run a couple hours before it shut itself off. Overheating ? meh, that's what warranty's are for. We got 25 hours on it in 5 days. Broke it in good !!

I know this is an old thread.
But this would be a huge concern for me. Thor (Keystone) had a whole batch of Class-As that had overheating 5500 watt Onans. They'd shut down in high heat and that means no AC.

These generators should operate in any condition up to max load... Indefinitely.

I've never had an issue running mine non stop for a couple of days here in the Texas heat but I've also only done that a couple of times. One question I did have was whether you're supposed to leave the generator access door open or not to help it cool. I initially had it closed then left it open.

Ran my yamaha yg2800i for over 50 hours non stop a couple years back, running the AC the whole time. Didn't give it any break and no problems. Let it run, that honda won't care a bit.

It depends upon the load you put on it. The engine should be good for continuous running. The generator portion however, may need a cool-down period if you have it at near full-load. The closer to full-load, the sooner it will need to cool down a bit. Typical use usually doesn't run into this problem though. May want to check the FAQ site of the generator to see what they say.

I have looked and saw nothing. When I had the Raptor at the desert I would run for 2-3 hours most at one time but it looks like I would be running the on board gen for probably 8 hours tops, thats why I thought about bringing the Honda and running for a few hours to rest the on board gen. I will look on Onan's site again.

I was just reading some testimonies on Onan's site and some people are running there gens for 20 hrs a day!!! Some of those are the 7500 series but it must be all good. I will change the oil on Sunday and have it ready for our next excursion

What model? Air cooled or liquid?
