That might be a good deal. Our current labor rate is $175.00/hr. How long does it take to properly winterize and how much antifreeze?

I’m asking because we don’t do that in the Central Valley or Bay Area.

Not sure about costs there but the two jugs of anti freeze alone here cost me about $40 and it took me a few hours (first time I had to do it ) so doesn't sound unreasonable as long as it's done right? I'm in Canada though so hard to compare rates.

I don't see a problem with the price at all. Pretty much all labor, not much in material costs.

This won't apply to everyone, but some owners simply have no clue and that probably impacts the price we all pay more than many realize....

What I mean by that statement is that the RV dealership (sometimes called the stealership) has to take all owners into consideration when they price their services. Routinely it takes about an hour, maybe 90 minutes to winterize a trailer. If it's clean, if there's nothing in the way when removing the panel to access the water heater bypass valve or the water pump, it should be a "money maker/money neutral" situation for the dealership. If, however, someone brings the RV in for winterizing and the entire storage area has to be emptied (time and space) and the technician has to spend 30 or 45 minutes moving stuff to even get to the panel so he can winterize the water heater.... Well, you get the idea....

So, I'm sure that dealership is factoring in the 3 or 4 "thoughtless owners" who will bring in a "full trailer"... The rest of us wind up paying for the extra time needed to winterize their trailer....

I'd go on to say that MOST owners aren't in this category, but there are a few (enough to cost the rest of us increased pricing).....

I'm certain that nobody on this forum would ever do this, but there are enough Keystone owners who aren't members.... Just sayin'

Wow!

We buy RV antifreeze for less than $5 a gallon and it takes about 15 minutes to drain the lines and fill with antifreeze. Did it twice last year.

WOW !!!! It would almost pay to take an annual vacation to the US just for a couple gallons of RV antifreeze. ACE hardware runs a special every year (for the past 10 years) selling RV antifreeze for $1.99/gallon. Regular price is $2.79. I didn't realize it was $20/gallon north of us....

I've seen the rv antifreeze go anywhere from $4 - $20 a gallon. I typically buy it in spring/summer when it's about $4-$6 locally. Usually Wal Mart is cheapest here. I've been doing it myself for over 20 years so I can do it in an hour including blowing out the lines with air. So, at that price, at least around here, would be reasonable. YMMV

It's the import tariffs that's the killer. When I worked for a famous bakery cafe they bought furniture mfg in Canada. At that time import duties to US were minimal. I worked corp and the budget for building/remodeling in Canada was over double the US. Since the furniture was a US company that was manf there the furniture could not be shipped to Canada without going thru the States. Dumbest thing ever and the cost nearly tripled. Folks in this country want all the benefits that Canada and most of Europe enjoy but aren't willing to pay the price for it.

I buy mine at Walmart here in Cranbrook BC. $3.89/cdn. for 3.78 litres (1 US gallon) and we pay through the nose for everything in BC.
Or are you talking about the 9.46 litre jug?

I think I paid $3.99/gallon for the pink stuff. Last year it took me about two hours to winterize, but it was my first time. Much of the time was getting the plug off of the water heater, I have since bought a special tool for it. I did blow air through the system to remove as much water as possible before adding in the antifreeze. I would consider $129 a decent price, but would still do it myself if only to save the bother, time and gas towing to the dealer and back (nearest is about 50 miles).

I guess it seems high to me, but i do it myself so. Ya know labor cost and stuff.. i might add that a dealer "up north" charged me $40.00 to do it a few years ago..

Our Wal Marts are usually around $3.50 a gallon for the pink RV stuff. I grab 5 gallons for mine.

I just purchased my supply of RV antifreeze at Walmart in Ft. Wright, KY for $2.58 gallon. JRTJH's response makes a lot of sense though.....

$175 bucks an hour better come with legal advice too. $6 bucks and an hour of my time, if that, takes care of my trailer. Maybe I am just cheap but my time is free, someone elses time and knowledge on the other hand is not.
