Shower drains to black tank
I just picked up a brand new Alpine 3800 with the kitchen in the front. Love the This RV so far except one little thing. The shower drains to the black tank. It doesn't make any since to me. There is a 34 gal. Black tank and a 88 gal. Gray tank. I let my niece stay in it as soon as I got it. I instructed her to not use the toilet but she could use the shower. It was parked next to the house so she used the house facilities except the shower. Well the black water tank filled up and the gray water take is empty. She fly out today and when I looked, the water was to the top of the shower drain and the toilet too. The computerized monitoring system showed the black full and gray empty so. This doesn't make any since so I plan to call the dealer to see what's up. Anyone else have this problem? Did they plumb it wrong? What it designed this way? I home not. That would mean that I have a 88 gal grey tank just for the dishes. I think I could wash that many dishes in a month.

Either you have a real problem, or, I'm wondering if you have the black and grey tank drain valves open and have the external drain fitting capped, so when the shower water drains into the grey tank, it is also filling the black tank too?

Whoa! If bobbecky is correct, whatever you do, don't remove the external drain cap if both your valve pull handles are open!!!

I'll check that out. I hope you are right. One thing though, the monitor is showing the grey tank is empty. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for the reply, it makes since.

On our Avalanche the gray tank 1 (shower) and black tank valves were miss labeled. Found this when draining the tanks after the dealer left them full of fresh water. Then I found that the bathroom sink drains to the black tank. I found this when I was checking the tank levels indicators while flushing the water lines. I contacted Keystone RV and the rep. said on some models the bathroom sink drain is aligned to the black tank because it was easier to align the drain piping.

One other piece of advice, DO NOT put much trust in the level sensors, they are notoriously inaccurate to the point of being totally useless.
Mine read 1/3, 1/3, & 2/3 the day I bought it 5+ years ago & still read the same today.

I agree with everything said so far. Particularly Alpine's comment about the black cap removal. At this point about the only way to figure this out is to get these tanks drained somehow and start fresh.

Good time to check before the tanks have been used. Did all my checks when the trailer was delivered and the tanks had not been used.

I believe the OP said that his toilet and shower were full to overflowing.
This would indicate that in fact his shower drains into the black tank.

Are you my sister? She is an English teacher! I'm happy the OP is able to get some help with his peculiar waste tank situation.
Regards,
Mike

I thought I had a similar situation, but it turned out they just mislabeled the valves. The first trip out the shower started to back up, I went and pulled the valve for the greywater but it did not drain the shower. Went back closed the greywater valve and pulled the blackwater valve and it drained the shower (with clear water). Just to verify I hooked up the hose to the blacktank rinse and verified the tanks were plumbed correctly but the valves were mislabeled.

Could be either case since overflowing result would be the same? Time to check the waste gates and remove the outside cap. Good thing it’s only shower water!

Why? Misplaced emphasis and focus. This isn’t the first person who misspelled a word, and won’t be the last. Why not focus on his/her problem, not nitpick? Especially “since/sense/scents/cents” you made a punctuation error in your posting. Let’s work together in a positive way, not chump fellow members. Have a good day. (PS: two of my degrees had English as a Major, but I could figure out what the writer meant without chumping him/her on it).

Shower drains to black tank
Typos and incorrectly used words use to bug me. Then they only irritated me when I did it. Now, Siri and autocorrect have taken over and I’ve given up, and blame it all on Siri.

A 5-gal bucket and some long waterproof gloves!! Its supposedly just shower water as long as the OPs company didn't use the toilet. Lol!

Sence I'm siding with Griz and Old Soldier, and I couldn't make much cents out of the sent of gramma correction'z bad smel, this siet woodnt' be much without fiftee sense worth of common since.
We need to have a little fun here and dispense good information. Siri is as worthless as......maybe I better not use that language here. Voice recognition is acceptable and I believe we can all work around it. We don't want to become a site comprised of grammar-police.

Well, it turned out that my brand new 5er was misplumbed. I will be returning it to the dealer soon for repairs. I was hoping the monitor was wrong or a valve was open or something that was an easy fix but it is what it is. Luckily we figured it out before I got out on the road. We have a couple of months before our first trip in it so it will be fixed by then. I have learned a few new things from this experience. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I am glad I joined this forum.

I'm not familiar with the 3800 in particular, but some layouts do drain "grey" into the black tank for cheaper plumbing reasons. Especially the front kitchen, and bath and 1/2 models. Not right, but cheaper to manufacture.
BUT... we all know about "sticky labels" not "stuck" in right places! This just might be a drill! I would still suggest rubber "Gauntlet Gloves", and a HAZ-MAT coverall and a Kiddy Pool for the first evacuation drill!!! OR... let the dealer figure it out on his lot!
Sorry, I can't be there, I am other wised obligated! LOL
Good Luck,
