Yes, you can add shocks to the axles with the CRE system. The shock mounts attach to the axle/spring support (where the spring and axle meet) and to the trailer frame rail, not to the spring hangers where the CRE is attached. The CRE system allows for more spring hanger movement which tends to smooth the axle bounce that is transferred to the frame rails of the trailer. Many people find that the CRE system will "do almost the same job" as shocks and find that they don't need both. Every application is different, so look with a "careful eye" as to whether adding shocks would be worth the cost.

My experience is limited to two different hitches; First one was a Reese 16K which chucked badly. Number of adjustments with loading did not help. Traded trucks and new one has a Curt 20K. No chucking at all. Can't say what the difference is other than the nylon plate on the king pin with the Curt. Had other serious problems with the Reese so will never own another.

Had a Reese slider
all kinds of chucking switch to the Anderson no chucking.
weight distribution matters but now i can run with the rear window open and not a sound from the hitch

Bouncing
I appreciate the comments, I am not getting chucking from front to back but rather bouncing up and down. I understand a lot has to do with roads but it seems there is excessive bouncing. Water tank is in back so I can't add weight there. I have heard air bags help. I already have one in the passenger seat, oh wait, that's windbag. 😁 It does NOT help. I was wondering if off road shocks , like Fox would help. I do not have Z71 package.

If you're considering new shocks, consider Bilstein 4700/5100.

Found a new way to eliminate all chucking today. Drive 10MPH on the highway.
Left Salem Or. at 12:30- 10MPH until Wilsonville. Arrived at Cascade locks KOA at 6:15.

Throw a set of King OEM series shocks on your truck. Don't piddle around with little baby shocks to handle a big job.

Yeah, you got to love the Portland area traffic. Bad on most days - on Sunday it is even worse. With something like the eclipse - forgetaboutit!

I thought that might be the case.. I had a little chucking with my '12 F250 and the factory Reese hitch.. All gone with the dually and literally the same hitch... We took it out of the F250 and installed it in the dually..

That sucks.... funny thing is traffic around the Portland area was actually extremely light over the weekend and on Monday. I drove across the metro area and back on Monday after the eclipse and it was eerily quiet. That run from Salem up through Portland was probably the worst by far.

I'm running a '09 2500 HD, gasser pulling a Sprinter 269FWRLS. I have a Curt 20k slider hitch with stock pin. I had BAD bouncing on stock bilstein shocks. Put Rancho 5000 adjustable shocks all around. Seemed to help a little but still there. Added Firestone bags with on board compressor that I can adjust on demand. The bags helped but if I pump the bags up to 55-60 pounds it lifts my bed up. Makes for a un level pull situation.
Looking up your trailer in comparison to mine you have a little lighter condition but very close. With my setup one way I have found to minimize the chucking is to get off the gas when I approach a bridge or bumpy road. The bouncing has minimized but still would like to get better shocks. Not happy with the Rancho's even when I crank down the dampening.
Waiting for more shock recommendations!!

Now thinking again ~~ my 2016 F350 has 35,000++ and was thinking of changing the Rancho shocks to Bilstein 5100. Back to the drawing board

The dry pin on that Sprinter is 18%, towing you should have between 20% to 25% pin. I run about 22% on our Copper Canyon. Your 5er has about 11,600# at that weight pin should be about 2,500#, you should not need air bags at 55 to 60 psi to support that light of pin.

Good to know but how do you get to 22%? There isn't much more that I can put up in the bedroom. When I weighed at the Kat scale at Flying J it said my steering axle was 5920, drive 10920 with a gross weight of 16,840. For some reason they didn't get my trailer axle? That set up was when were living in it while re-doing the hardwood floors and kitchen flip.
Any suggestions where to get a deal on Bilstein's?
