HI,
There are several smaller 5er's that 1/2 ton truck can pull you will need to watch your gross rear axle weight and the combined gross vehicle weight. These weights are what your truck can safely pull and have been established by the manufacture. I would look on the driver side truck door B pillar that will have the weight placard on it. This will list your maximum weights that the truck can safely handle.
Cougar has four models of Xlite 5er's that you could buy ranging from the 26SAB to the 29RES, as you know. The 29RES has a pin weight at 15% of 1486 Lbs and or at 20% it is 1982 Lbs. This is the weight that will be transfered to the rear axle and will be supported by your rear axle and tires. Most of us used the 20% pin weight, when we look at the load that is placed on your rear axle and tires.
Only you can determine what 5er you want to pull safely.
