First, as suggested, make sure the awning wasn't rolled up the wrong direction. If it was, then extend is really retract and retract will cause your awning to extend. If it was rolled up in reverse, once you get it all the way out, just keep pushing the switch and it will roll up the correct way.
You can verify if it's rolled up backwards by looking at the awning fabric. If it rolls OVER the awning rail it is correct, but if it rolls UNDER the awning rail and then around it, it's been rolled up in reverse.
Also, if that doesn't get your awning working, there is a fuse, either behind the switch on the wall or in the wiring to the awning motor. Somewhere, there is a 15 amp fuse that protects the awning motor and wiring. I'd check for that fuse if the awning isn't rolled up in reverse.
