From an engineering point of view, there should be no concerns or issues with letting the slide hang from the pin box. The static force of just hanging from the box, should be thousands of pounds less than the forces encountered while driving down the road.

However, I only hang the hitch from the slide for the shortest amount of time needed as I don’t want the hitch exposed to the elements any longer than necessary. The longest I have had the hitch hanging is two days.
