Spray-on bedliner for rubber RV roof

I heard somewhere that the spray-on bedliner for pickup trucks could be applied over the rubber roof of a travel trailer as a permanent fix for leaking or failing roofs. I didn’t think anything would stick to the EDPM rubber.

I haven’t heard of it and I wouldn’t want to be the test case.

I’ve seen others post that it would add considerable weight compared to EPDM. While possibly not significant, the top of the trailer is the worst place to add any

RV Armour does spray over the existing roof, but unlike using truck bedliner, it was designed to do the job & guaranteed for life.

Spraying "bed liner" on RV roofs has been around for years. Line-X, one of the largest and best known spray bed liner companies advertises that they spray their product on RV's. Here's a link to Orange Country Line-X. You can read about what they have to say: http://linexoc.com/n-10840-rv-and-ca...th-line-x.html

The Line-X dealer here has done several RV's. One is on a road near our house. It has been out in the weather for about 5 years now. I haven't talked to the owner, but his family use the RV all summer and I don't see them on the roof working on it, so I'd guess it must not be leaking.

Does that come in anything but black? I'd be leery putting a black roof on an RV.

Black, gray and white are the "standard colors"... Line-X advertises custom colors (for an additional cost) to match any color desired. The one I know of near us is white. It's about 5 years old and no stains or discoloration even though it sits under a bunch of poplar trees, known for dropping "goo" most of the growing season.

Good to know, as I've only seen the black. Saw a jeep that was painted with bed liner. Looked pretty sharp. I wonder how the cost compares to replacing a roof?

Brother-in-law had the front of their yellow teardrop lineX to prevent rock damage. He said it was pricey to get it color matched. I didn't ask for details but if he thinks it's pricey well, he's the kind of person that trades in a vehichle when the tires get dirty. Considering our roof is 4 1/2 times the area of an 8' truck bed and the surfave is in the air and can't be walked on I'm thinking it would be cost prohibitive for me personaly.

from what i have read and seen in a couple videos. it replaces the rubber roof completly. and trims thd edges so no leaks.
is far strounger than any tv factory roof covering made.
just remove everything from the roof. spread on. let it set, then reapply everything as normal.
yes costs $$ but so does replacing a torn rubber roof. or water damage.

I had a permanent roof installed on mine last year when I added the additional A/C units. All the old sealer around bolts and recessed holes has to be removed and filled with the silicon sealer. It's a bit labor intensive but it's lifetime waranteed. That was my biggest concern on owning an RV was the cost of maintain/replacing the roofs. Now I just get it washed once a year. If you're planning on keeping yours for a long time I would get it done when it's new and be done with it. I'm sure it helps the resale value too though.

Don't know if redoing a new roof is worth the expense. Also when resale time comes wouldn't the buyer be a bit suspicious when they see the roof redone. Sure to ask the question "was the roof leaking". JMO

This is the guy who did mine. $1700 is pretty cheap IMO. I paid more because mine is about 40 foot and required more material.

I'm not affiliated with this company so I have nothing to gain, just trying to offer options to anyone who may need/want this done.

That is an awesome price! And I would do it in a heartbeat! First time out in our camper and tree limb all the way down the roof! So we are looking to replace ours with the coated roof, seeming to be the same cost, with so little upkeep, and little to no maintenance! WIN WIN. However here in Texas we are getting quotes of 10K plus. OUCH.

I just saw that Rhino Eco is doing silver and stating that it reduces the heat due to the reflective flakes in it.....? We are currently looking into this.... not to just do it, but because our roof was ruined by a tree limb. With the cost being so comparable we are leaning towards the Spray on liner, just not sure on brand

If a tree limb went through the membrane, your insurance company should be paying for the roof replacement (minus your deductible)....

My 2002 Cougar 5ver roof was at the end of its life with black showing through. The black is the EPDM rubber roof. The roof was torn by a tree limb and I was surprised at how thin the stuff is. Since I have an older trailer, Progressive Insurance will value the trailer to about $6500 in repairs then write it off for salvage. I had to keep a roof job under the amount they would pay. The trailer is 27' and the linerar foot is how most companies price a new roof. The prices noted are for my application and may vary with area of the country except for RV-Armor which is nationwide price ($140 a linear foot).

1. New EPDM roof $5000
Plus - within budget and good installer Negative - another rubber roof

2. Rhino Liner Eco roof $6800
Plus - durable and won't tear Negative - overpriced and has to be painted

3. FlexArmor $5500
Positive - everything on the roof sprayed with lifetime coating then stuff replaced
Negative - Closest installer a couple hundred miles and have to leave trailer for weeks

4. RV-Armor $3780
Positive - roll on coating - lifetime guarantee - installer comes to your place
Negatives - This stuff goes over Dicor at penetrations and changing vents and such
will be a pain although they give you a kit for such touch ups.

I went with RV-Armor. Professional bunch and installer was great. Don't think a tree branch could easily rip this surface as it is very tough but if it does, they will come and fix it for free under the lifetime warranty. Roof is maintenance free.

I also went with RV-Armor. They did a wonderful job. $4200 compared to $10,000 for new rubber roof. It was a no brainer. They came right to my house.
