AC water leak when it rains - how to repair?

I have a Cougar 303rls with the one AC in ceiling above rear living. Bought in April and hasn't been in rain until 2 days ago in the Redwoods. Rained pretty hard and I noticed a little water on the floor underneath AC vent. I looked around and found what appears to be water coming down the side of the AC hole and dripping out of the vent opening grate. Got on roof and noticed that due to slopping roof water can run down the roof towards the rear and that water probably runs into the front of the AC unit on its way back. I noticed that there was a black foam pad that ran across the front of the unit siting between roof and bottom/front of AC that probably is a seal and pad. A small amount of the foam was missing about 1/2" wide. I had a tube of silicone so I filled the hole and ran a bead of silicone across the front of the AC unit hoping it would serve as a dam to prevent any water from reaching the front of the AC and pad. Rained again next night but I don't think it was as much as the previous night. Found a very small amount of water on the vent grate and a very small amount on floor but much less than previous day.

On the roof it is about 8 ft forward of the AC to a fan vent and there are no other openings on the roof above so I think it is the AC seal that is leaking. Any ideas on how to replace or repair as I don't think my method is the fix.

Maybe, until a better answer comes in... Drop your nose a little bit, so not as much water finds the A/C unit.

My second thought is are you still under warranty? If not, you might try spray insulating foam under the unit, as a more permanent itemt. I would mask the area to confine it to the A/C underbelly. I would feel real queasy about trying to totally reseat the A/C with a new gasket, and Dicore.

Good Luck,

Take the ceiling grill off. You will find LONG screws that hold the AC down against the roof membrane and the metal frame against the ceiling. 3/8” head, tighten them up so the gasket is compressed And the metal plate is pulling sort of hard against the ceiling. Tighten each screw a little bit so you do it evenly.

If that doesn’t fix it, then it needs to go back the the dealer for further investigation. DO NOT spray any insulating foam, and NO DICOR is used in installation of an AC unit.

You don't want to over compress the gasket either. I would recommend giving each screw only a 1/2 turn to 1 full turn on occasion until it stops leaking. What I'm saying is, give it a half turn on each screw then wait until it rains again to see if it leaks, then another half turn if it's still leaking. In my experience it doesn't take a lot to stop the leak and during the time of your ownership you may need to snug them again a time or two more.

If it keeps leaking after 4-6 of these adjustments then go see your dealer, there may be an issue with the gasket. These leaks, while frustrating, are easy to see and catch in a bucket so be patient.
