Inverter and Auto Generator Start

Hello, I am looking into adding a 1500-2000watt inverter to my Carbon 357 with an Onan 5500 and would also like to add an auto gen start system so that I am not constantly watching the battery levels. Anyone out there have experience, advice, brand recommendations for both the inverter and auto gen start, etc? I currently have a 200w solar system and 3 12v batteries.

Thank you in advance,

X2. I have the Magnum auto start. It may be the only one on the market right now that is compatible with Onan. I originally wanted the Onan auto start kit but it was discontinued with plans to develope a system controlled from a smartphone app. I don’t know if this was ever brought to the market

The magnum can start on low voltage, preconfigured inside temperature, and you can schedule quite time so it will top off your batteries beforehand.

Thank you both. Do you know if the Magnum is compatible for Onan 5500? I have read some posts on other sites that say auto starts are only for diesels or 10k and up gens.

The Magnum ME-AGS-S is the model I have and I have the factory installed gasoline Onan 5500 with the Jensen In-Command. It is compatible with all of that.

Not really. The dealer installed it at the time of purchase. Seriously, the advantage of living with one fifth wheel for 16 years was that when we began our search for the next one, I new what I wanted to have included at the time of sale.

The manual is available online if you search for the model number and the instructions are pretty clear. On mine, with the In-Command system, the necessary generator wires were tapped right where they run into the BCM control unit.

I have one new in the box that I bought to install but never did. My new Raptor has the auto start on it from the factory.
