Ohio to Spencer TN

In July we are heading from Mid-Michigan to Falls Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee. We are doing an overnight in Wapakoneta OH then continuing on. My GPS and all the mapping apps I have looked at say to get off I-75 at Mt.Vernon KY. on 461 then work my way across. My Father-in-law, who we are meeting up with that lives down there, (who doesn't like pulling his own camper unless it is on a highway) thinks we need to go all the way to Knoxville and then take 40 to the west.

My question is has anyone taken the 461 to 90 to 111 route. By GPS it seems to be highway still and not windy back roads.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys think.

Tech, don't be fooled by the driving time that you receive from Google maps, etc. When you leave I-75 and head SSW on 461, 90, etc. you are destined for good roads, and lots of small towns. And it will be like that the entire way. There are probably 12-15 towns in that stretch, every one with a caution light, traffic light, 30 MPH speed limit and school zone. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the highways, but this is far from interstate quality travelling. If you're in a hurry, follow the interstate system. If you're wanting to actually see something then get off that infernal concrete ribbon and live a little. (Oops, I snuck personal opinion in there )
Have a great time while you're there and spend lots of money! Tennessee needs your tourist dollars!

Thanks. I wondered how the times would be with it being state roads that go through towns. We will see how the trip treats us. We go down there at least once a year so you get my tourist dollars. Lol. Going twice this year. July at Falls Creek Falls and thanksgiving at the Jellystone by Dollywood.

Stay on 75 and then west on 40 to Crossville exit 317, US 127 south to 70, NOT 70N. Take 70 to 111 at Sparta and south to 30 east into the park. That is your best route IMO.

As long as you hit K'ville outside of rush hour time it will be fine. Traffic still might be moderately heavy but it will flow. I have never had an issue going through.

I have driven through Knoxville many times just not with the camper in tow. I am thinking interstate it is due to it being an 8 hour day of driving. If it speeds it up I can get to the adult sodas quicker. A wife and three kids in the truck combined with Cincinnati and Knoxville is not something I look forward too.

If you are going to do I-75S to I-40W, make sure you take the I-640W loop around downtown.....every little bit helps.

Very true. I hate traffic. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate everyone’s pointers.

Last year when we went from Knoxville to Murfreesboro google routed us down all these little roads with almost no shoulder and very large ditches. Not a fun haul.
I have switched to Waze. Much more options and if you have Android Auto you can switch between google maps and Waze.
Plus I always look at a map.

Waze is good. I have the app but haven't used it. Our daughter uses it fighting Houston traffic all day everyday. Even tells you where the police are, she says.

Well we made it. However the 68rfe transmission in the truck did not. Hope to have it back Thursday. Fresh Jasper HD transmission going in. Went out about 1 hour west of Knoxville.
