Time for tires

We are getting a new to us 2010 361 LEV and it time for new tires.

What are the opinions of the Power King Towmax STR II ST235/80R16?

Thanks in advance!
Dan

China Tires to Made In USA!
With my PowerKing "D" tires going on their 6th year and 3,013 I purchased 4 new Goodyear Endurance "E" rated ST225/75R15 tires. Tires were dated from 0117 to 0617, weight 34Lb, definitely a huskier tire. Max load at 80PSI 2,830Lb, Made in USA. Tires feature a scuff guard and side of tire states that the tread is 2 Steel, 2 Nylon and 2 Polyester while the sidewall is 2 Polestar. Trailer scale weight is 6,100Lb when hitched to Tundra this drops to 5,500Lb scale weight.
Tires installed 5/3/2017 by Discount Tires, used rubber based brass top high-pressure 155PSI valve stems with Tire Minder sending units, not pass through type. Tires were balanced; cost $121 per tire plus balancing and disposal of old tires. 240 Mile first trip down I5 and back in temperature up to 84 Cruize control at 55, max speed about 60. Tires set by Discount Tire at 80 PSI, Tire Minder showed that all four tires while running at speed did not deviate from each other by more then 1.7Lb and temperature by more the 4 degree's with the ambient temperature at 79 to 84, tire high temperature 86. Traveling South to North so the sun hit one side of trailer as well as rear tire does not get as much airflow as front. Bottom line, drove to and from camp sight with unaccustomed confidence in my tires, seemed to have less rolling resistance and otherwise could not tell the difference from PowerKing. No marks on wheels from Tire Minder sending units. Tires just warm to my hand at rest stops. Will report any problems.
7/30/2017 Posted update to the above:
Update: 3 trips on tires and 726 miles in the summer heat, as above, no excess heating or PSI noted by Tire Minder. On rest stops the tires are only warm to my hand and have worked perfectly and I am happy that the workers at Goodyear USA received my money. Good tip: Go up one load level, try to have close to 1/2 of each tire weight capasity un-used!

Dan, you desperately need to do a search on this site for problems with the tire you mentioned. There are three brands continually brought up on this forum that seem to pass muster when serviceability and cost enter the picture. The brands are Sailun, Maxxis and Carlisle. I don't favor one over the other, we simply used Sailun on our Raptor because that is what Tire King in Florida could get for a reasonable price. This may be the most important decision you make after buying your rig. Avoid the Tow Max at all cost. I might add, Wally World has a fairly good price on the Carlisle tire right now.

Once you get your RV, see what tires are on it whether they are an "E" rated or "G" rated tire. Then you need to check one of your rims and see what the max PSI rating on those are. Chances are in 2010 the rims are rated for an "E" rated tire which cover a couple tires mentioned, Maaxis, GY Endurance and Carlisle. Not sure if Sailun makes an "E" rated tire but are probably known better for their "G" rated tires that have a max PSI of 110lbs. The others are at a PSI of 80lbs. That's why I mentioned checking your rims to make sure they are capable of handling the PSI rating of whatever rated tire you get.

Max PSI on rims is stamped on the backside......usually. YMMV

Stay away from tow max, and trailer king. I’ve always used Carlisle in the past, but this year went with Hartland from Discount Tire. They make two versions one is an all steel which is the better version, but more expensive. As already mentioned, check your rims for the max psi rating. If they are rated for 95, Carlisle makes a load range F tire that would be a nice upgrade, if they are rated for 110, you can go to a load range G. Not sure what your GVWR is , but if it’s in the 15,000 or more range, I’d go at least LRF preferably LRG. I went with the Hartland because I like using Discoint Tire, they stock them or can get them in overnight at most places. The Hartland reminds me of the Sailun, very heavy/rugged tire and so far has performed very well on my Alpine. I also run the TST 507 TPMS with flow through sensors. If you decide to add a TPMS, get steel valve stems

All I can do is 2nd what everyone else has said. Avoid the Tow Max and Trailer King's at all cost. I experienced 7k in damages on relatively new Trailer Kings as my learning experience.

I had really good luck with Maaxis tires on my other 2 RVs. I have Sailuns on current one because they came from factory with them. I also run the 507 flow thru TPMS system, great setup.

I would not install Trailer King tires on my wheel barrow. Maaxis and Sailun are great along with G614. I run a 14 ply LT 235x85/16 and am very satisfied on my fifth wheel

IMO the newer the design the better the tire. A problem for you is the OE tires. They are rated at 3520# @ 80 PSI. The newest tire on the market in that size is rated at 3420# @ 80 PSI. So is one of the most popular after market ST tire brand.

If your AXLES have been certified above 6840# GAWR those 3420# tires do not qualify as replacements.

Keep in mind that the entire tire industry only supports replacement tires that provide a load capacity equal to or greater than what the OE tires provide on the vehicle’s certification label.

Whichever brand get minimum of 1 weight rating more than the originals, D to E, E to F, F to G, as originals are just barely enough.

a few years ago, (2011) Carlise tires were t be avoided like the plague. Have they got it together now and are a good tire. They were coming apart bowing out and tearing up a lot of campers.

Short answer, yes. Do a search for Carlisle on here. Also, added bonus, Walmart carries them st a crazy good price. Win-win for RVers.

Only reason I mentioned the towmax is because that’s what’s on it now. They look like new but I think there original.
