Hello from Oregon

Hello from the green and dripping state of Oregon. We've had our Freedom Lite 185 since '08, and hope to get more use out of it this year.

Getting tired of seeing it sit in the driveway. I'm hoping this is the year we really get to enjoy it more.

So hoping to learn a lot from the more experienced folks here, and will try to share what we can, too.

Thanks,

Slo

Welcome from the great winter state of Michigan. Only 11 years of ownership? What took you so long to drop by?

Welcome, lots of folks here to help with anything that might come up. Don't forget the dry Eastern half of Oregon, like everyone else does.

It is just a short hop to the coast from Gresham, several parks open year round.

We actually much preferred the eastern side of Oregon & Washington! Not as many people that don't know how to drive, people were much friendlier, much drier & you can actually see the scenery not just trees.

Thank you 5J's. Actually, I transplanted to Oregon from Texas. Lived in Austin for a while, then down to Schertz for a while, and over to Houston - before moving up here.

Lots of things I miss from down there, but the heat isn't one of them.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Haha...Don't worry Hankster. I enjoy central and eastern Oregon, too.

BB...thank you for the welcome. Took long enough to convince the fam that camping was fun. But after getting their feet wet, life kind of took over - and left little time to get back out again. So hopefully, this will be the year.

Thanks again for the welcome.

Thank you, rhagfo. Oh we know. We hit the coast often, crabbing, fishing, etc. Just have to make sure I set my alarm to wake up early and make reservations for spots.

Ah, then you've driven through Schulenburg. It's eight on I-10 between SA and Houston. We'll be headed to the RV show in Houston next weekend.

Totally understand, TT. We enjoy getting over on that side, too, just to escape the city dwellers I get to enjoy the cream of the crop every day, as I drive to work from Oregon into Washington. I will say, at least 'most' of the drivers on the Oregon side know that the fast lane is for that purpose.

And you are right - lots of scenery can be seen without all the trees. But we love the trees, too. If you really want to get a visual representation - drive up I-84, up the Columbia River gorge, from west to east. Takes you from the ocean, across the coast range, into the valley, across the cascades, high desert, to desert. Something for everyone - within a few hours.

5J's, I used to see the sign for Schulenburg, don't know that I ever stopped there. I'll have to put in on my bucket list for next time I go down.

You're not missing much! Hwy. 77 has some nice scenery between Schulenburg and LaGrange but heed caution as you approach the bluff on the south side of LaGrange, it's winding and narrow.

Yes, Gruene is a great place. It's just not the place it used to be, then again what is? We used to float the river there frequently. My sister-in-law used to live un New Braunfels and she had an Aunt that lived just out side Gruene. Our new spot is Fentress. We camp there several times a year and tube the San Marcos River. Actually we'll be there in a couple of weeks. That whole area is nice except all the people moving in.

Welcome!

Yes come to over to the Dark Side. (Eastern Oregon) Just try and avoid Bend as it is not overly RV friendly.

Most NF parks in Central Oregon are on reservation now, so plan in advance. We are over populated a bit.

We love to go to Lagrande, Baker, Ontario. Coast (Southern Coast is less Crowded) trips are a blast, but again, we make reservations as soon as well can (is it 6 months for SP now? or 9?)

Anyway, Oregon is beautiful, love it here, well here and Northern Idaho is startling to look like a viable place to move!

Welcome fellow Oregonian. I am transplanted from Az. I really miss the sun/heat. Used to live in San Antonio. Way back in '68.
