Adding batteries
When I bought my Toyhauler it came with 2 12V batteries. I am getting ready to swap them out for 4 6V. Looking at the battery storage compartment, there is only room for 3 batteries. 2 on the top shelf and one more on the bottom. I have tried to figure out how to get 4 batteries in the compartment but I do not think its going to work. Any ideas? For any one that has added batteries. Where are you putting the 4th battery? I am guessing in the pass thru storage compartment, and putting the battery in one of the vented plastic battery boxes.

If you have not already searched the forum I would suggest doing that. If I recall there have been quite a few posts related to going from 2 12V batteries to 4 6V batteries including the mods necessary to house them. May not be for the same rig that you have but may give you some ideas.

I think you've got it right. The typical way to add it is to go into the pass through storage compartment. You need to vent them, maybe fan them, certainly put them into a storage container... Or move to AGM batteries.
With what you have - and I've got a Carbon Toy hauler with 2x 12v deep cycles (lead) - I'd simply go ahead and get a 3rd 12v battery before investing in 4 new ones. For me the biggest battery issue wasn't the power stored in the batteries, it was the fact that the factory cut-off doesn't cut everything off. Dry camping, I just start the genset every 3 days or so and we're good.
I installed an A/B/BOTH battery cut off. You could use a 2-selection battery cut off with (Bat A + Bat B) on one side and (BAT C) on the other - for emergency gen start...
A Group 27 size 12v battery AGM seems to be about 90AH
A Group 27 size 6v battery seems to be about 200AH.
12v, with 3, you'll have 270AH
12v, with 4, you'll have 360AH
6v, with 2 x 2-in-series (4 total), you'll get 400AH
As such, you'll get about 10% more power storage out of 6v batteries over 12v, given the same number...

As has been mentioned there have been other discussions here about 12 vs 6 volt batteries. I personally don't see the need for 6 volts as I have an onboard genny and have installed 3-12 volt batteries and don't boondock for over a week at a time. If your planning on doing a decent sized solar panel setup then probably 6 volts are the better way to go. Just my opinion.

I am kind of spoiled. Our last rig was a 40ft Diesel Pusher.

I do not know what room you have but when I had a A frame it would only take 2 group 24 Battery. As it turn out they make a 6 volt battery that has a group 24 foot print but is a lot taller. So if it would help look at different size 6 volt battery.

I had planned on adding 2 more 6 volts to mine. I was going to put them both on the opposite side down low. was going to weld a few angle brackets to the frame.

Adding batteries
I boon dock a lot. Went from two group 24 12 volts to two Costco 6 volt golf cart batteries. No comparison. I carry Honda generators to run AC stuff and put charge on the batteries. For me two Costco 6 volt batteries are way less than and two 12 volt RV batteries. Much larger plates and I’m quite pleased.

Not sure what your ultimate goal and setup is, but you could go with 2- 6 volt batteries for your house batteries and use 1 -12 volt battery for your generator. But make sure if you do that you put in a battery isolator device to allow your power center to charge both but not allow your use to drain the genny battery.

twvette.....You just helped out with the finished ideas. Great idea for the tray on the bottom batteries and then you do not have to worry so much on venting. Thank you
