Made a dumb mistake

While leaving campground last weekend (7/22/18), I failed to completely raise my rear stabilizers (they were up, just not enough) . On the way out the park, you have to go over speed bumps, and my rear stabilizers must have clipped them. I was able to get them bent back, here is that they look like now...

In my opinion those are the most useless POS on the market today. Last winter I watch a elderly couple unhook, setup, and deploy those jacks on level concrete. Unfortunately they did not deploy the wheel chucks...yep a little body motion inside and the jacks collapsed and off they went into the back of the new TV.

My Canadian neighbors and I, all retired Machine Repair specialists, went over and saved the day.

Those speed bumps you encountered must have been pretty high or the stabilizers were kinda low. I've been at personal pucker factor nine while watching the rearview mirror as the rear stabilizers almost kiss concrete pulling out of gas stations. I'm probably going to smack steel at some point too, but those scissor jacks work fine AFTER chocking the tires, right Frank? We've all pulled a dumb one (just one? ) so you're not alone... like me driving off and leaving a full set of Lynx leveler blocks behind. I found the empty blue bag later and did a

It may not have been the speed bumps, but it was the only thing I could think of between the site and dump station (where i noticed they were bent). Well... now that I think about it some more, there may have been one other place, but it doesn't matter, we will see how bad they are next time I deploy them.

Don't feel to bad. It was one of my first ever setups with my Toy Hauler (first RV ever for me) and I unhooked from the trailer after chocking the tires AND lowering my electric stabilizers. Oh wait, I still need to level the trailer front to back. So I started lowering the electric tongue jack down. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had already deployed the stabilizers. Oops, note to self....completely level BEFORE putting the stabilizers down. I haven't done it again and fortunately, no damage to the stabs.

Many years and several campers ago DW and I pull into cg after dark, in the rain. Site was muddy and tongue jack did not have a plate. I used one of those cones made for the purpose with a board under it. DW was inside and she said she couldn't get the oven to light. I went inside and as I got the "wh" part of why is the camper moving I knew I hadn't choked the tires. So after the short ride followed by the tongue jack impaling it's self about 18" into the mud I began the extraction process. We all have our moments.

Since I'm in a self deprecating mood here are a few more dumb moves.
Went too far forward with the truck while doing the back 'n forth boogie on a narrow campground road to line up with the trailer and mashed the license plate into a big boulder.
Replaced the entire water line from fresh water tank to kitchen faucet because that MUST be the cause of wet carpet every time we ran the pump (one of the drain fittings had cracked).
Crossed up the battery wires and spent the dry camping weekend without power.
Shot a long pine board into the step assembly while backing onto said board in the wet grass. Pine board 1, step 0.
As a newbie I didn't lock the trailer coupler. WDH downward pressure probably kept me from disaster.
Flattened a small section of the siding by cutting it too close on the final turn to get gas and kissed the pole protecting the pumps.
Towed that heavy Santa Fe trailer into the mountains behind a Chevy van conversion. Boy oh boy can those radiators spout steam!

First Trip with new Truck

When backing in close quarters, don't rely on the camera or sensors, I did not see the corner of the pinbox in the monitor as it wiped out the handle. Sensors never squawked a beep

Fortunately all it got was the handle and no sheet metal, all of the electronics are functioning and all I need is the plastic.

Replacement handle should be here soon.

That is the school of hard knocks. We all still have our learning experiences. Mine was last week at an outdoor gem and mineral show. I had to move my trailer a little after having been there 2 days and before anyone set up in front of me so I hook up and raise the leveling jacks and proceed to pull forward feeling some resistance so I give it more gas and away I go slowly forward. Then I back up and get the trailer moved over, get out and see I did not raise my tongue jack. OMG. Thank goodness it was sandy soil and I furrowed it like a farmers field. No damage to my tongue jack. Got away with one there.

We have a bike rack on the back of our trailer. I was backing into a spot in a PHX campground and thought I had trailer positioned just right. Got out and saw that there was a post that I did not see when I looked around before backing and could not see in mirrors-bent rack and put minor bend in bike front wheel. Bike rack still has minor kink, need to take it off and heat it to get it straight, bike has a new front wheel. Live and learn.

First... OUCH!! That looks painful.

You need to hold you head the opposite direction to get them straight. Seriously; I use my phone to take photos for posting. I hold it sideways instead of up and down.

What BSHGTO said it right; phone pics are taller. But, if you turn it sideways they come out fine. For some reason they are tall if you hold it up but not panoramic if you hold it sideways.

Ok here is mine,
Coming home from long 4th of July trip, stopped to disconnect WD hitch spring bars for better manuverability. Lowered tongue jack to take pressure off the bars but did not raise it. Realized it as soon as I moved forward but it was too late on asphalt. Jack extension now has a 30 degree bend in it. Out comes the Sawzall and the 3 ton floor jack. TT sat on jack stands till new tongue jack arrived 10 days later. luckily I was across the street from home when this happened and not on the road 200 miles from nowhere.
