Maybe he was on his way to the metal recyclers and decided to take a short side trip.

Yep, it's got a wdh head on that hitch and the L brackets do look like an Equalizer. Those brackets sure look out of whack and I don't see a bolt head under the bottom of the frame....maybe it just doesn't work? Maybe just add some air bags?

Maybe like some people think that if the engine will put it they are OK, maybe he figured that since the trailer hitch fit the receiver ball he could pull it. After all, it fit.

A 1 7/8" or a 2" ball will fit inside a 2 5/16" trailer coupler, so he's good with any size ball on his F150. Heck, the weight of the trailer tongue will keep it from bouncing off unless he's on a bumpy road, and then he can just wrap a spare bungee cord around the tongue to keep it connected.... He's "golden" and maybe if he hangs a set of Bull Horns on the hood, they will weight the front tires and keep them from bouncing.... He can "customize" his Bull Horns, depending on how much weight he needs to redistribute.....

I towed my 1989 33' prowler TT with a 72 ford station wagon with a 400 engine and it didn't look that bad. Back then if a company made a class 4 hitch for your vehicle, hey it can tow it. I would just tow on flat terrain only.

Back when I was young and stupid I put a hitch on my 1969 Corvette. Was a steel bumper Vette and the hitch was "U" shaped on the inside of the rear bumper parts going under and around the license plate. I was back from Viet Nam and needed to get my stereo stuff from Greenville SC down to Savannah. That Vette could pull that Uhaul trailer with no problem. Don't recall if I ever tried to stop though.

More ridiculous than that is seeing a receiver hitch on a Prius.

Yeah, my thought was that the trailer just didn't look that heavy, he probably had batteries or generators or whatnot buried in the truck bed. I do notice that he wisely removed the vinyl side rails to save weight.

My uncle was in Norfolk and always talks about the time he tried to tow his mobile home a few feet with an old Corvair. Back when I was young and stupid I watched my Suzuki ATV roll off my trailer and watched in my rear view mirror it bouncing of the deck as high as the Greyhound bus behind us. The things we do when towing are pretty scary.

I stopped at a rest stop one day and there was a Toyota there with a 5th wheel hooked up to it. That truck was saggi9ng like the one in the oic. I took off and left them there but it wasn't long and they went by me like I was standing still. I wish I had taken a photo it was crazy.

Maybe it was an ex-NASCAR Gander Outdoors Toyota. They do have some power.

I have two theories. One is that Mama threw his lazy butt out and he emptied the garage and his man cave into the back of the truck and split.

The other and more obvious answer is, he lowered the rear of the truck so the trailer would be level while towing. He read this on a RV forum somewhere.

The first pic could be used to show the classic description of how the rear tires will have a large foot print and the front ones so small with the lack of proper WD. I'd hate to be going down hill with that configuration.

The second pic shows he got a large shank for the WD but turned it to a raised position. I think he wanted the trailer level and wasn't thinking about the truck needing to be level. With that, probably and 8", drop the shank would be digging into the ground and acting like an anchor.
