No power to Furrion camera

Ok…looking for verification to what I think the problem is….

Just got the Furrion rear observation camera for he RV. It was not Furrion “prewired” but was prewired.

Took off the cap, cut the wire attached to the cap (pink/white wire and white wire) then reconnected the wires with the camera wire spliced in. ( red to P/W and black to White). Turned on the truck, manually turned on the lights, no “blue” light on camera.😢. Went back, reversed the wires just in case ( black to P/W and red to white). Still no power to camera😢.

Checked camera on monitor pigtail….everything works fine 😀

So, even though it’s a 2020 GMC and not a 2021 or newer, maybe I need the pigtail adapter?

I assume your Furrion camera is wireless with an antenna.
Are you trying to get the camera to show on your GMC dash screen?
Or do you have a Furrion monitor mounted on your dash?
I have no idea if they make cameras to work with the GMC dash monitor.
Just curious - what happens to the camera when you put the truck in reverse?

The camera on my rig only works if I turn on the headlights.
My rig came with a Furrion wireless camera and monitor, and I bought a VisionWorks system Black Friday 2021. Threw the Furrion system in the trash.
I had a "mini-RCA" jack inside the rear cap (probably not the right term) and simply plugged in my new camera...so I never even looked at the wire colors...but my camera only turns on when the headlights are turned on.

Most likely spliced into the clearance lights. If the clearance lights are on the camera should be on.

Mike,

Installing the Furrion using the kits monitor. Not trying to integrate it with the GMC system.

J,
Clearance lights are on, even had the hazards on. no camera power. In fact even with the Splice disconnected the lights stayed on. The P/W wire did show power on my meter though.

Hmmm...I'd be tempted to remove the center clearance light and check to see where the camera wiring is coming from. At that point you could also just splice into the light directly to guarantee power.

J,
They are small “dot” style lights. That might be hard….

If I “jumper” the 7 pin and take the truck out of the equation the camera should power on if the wiring is correct right?

Well, as long as the clearance lights are on the camera should be on.

Any chance there is a switch in the coach to power the camera? Seems odd but thought I'd ask.

Also, have you checked your camera with the truck attached? If not then I would. I'm now also wondering if yours is wired to the backup lights, not the clearance lights.

I think I remember reading somewhere that GM used a "new modulated signal" to power the trailer running lights and that reduced the "power capacity" below the level required for the Furrion camera system. There is, if I remember correctly, a jumper cable available from GM dealers to fix the problem and send "full power" to the 7 pin umbilical running light pin...

So, you might want to "hot wire the camera to a "known good 12 volt power supply" (jumper to a 12 volt battery would work to test) and see if the camera powers on. If it does, then research the GM jumper issue.

Remember, reading voltage on a voltmeter won't assure that there is "amperage available" on that circuit.

J,
Not sure but it’s worth a look if the jumper does work….

Ah...I remember this as well. GM charges you $125.00 for a device to give you the voltage at the plug that is already native to the truck...shrewd

No power to Furrion camera-update

Ok…finally got back over to storage area after work. It rained all day yesterday 😢

While waiting for the rain though I did do a little research. Appears Keystone uses a wire color code system to help identify what a wire is used for.

So it appears that the Pink/white wire in the camera ready hole, if you believe the tech bulletin, is for accessories in the back 1/3 of the RV. Nothing to do with the Marker lights on the rear🤔

Tonight with out the trailer hooked up, did a voltage check. Yep, 12v DC at the wires with no trailers lights on. So now it looks like I have “cut” an accessories circuit. Still doesn’t explain why the 12v would not turn on the camera🤔. But if I figure that out then I have the problem where the camera is always on😢

Could run a line to the markers but the are the 1” or so “dot” lights and I don,t see how they are removed. Anybody take one out before?

Or maybe just see is keystone will fix the issue under warranty since i only bought it 4 months ago.

Did you cut the wire and only use one leg, or did you cut the wire and strip both legs back and connect those to your camera?

Did you try putting the truck in reverse? Wait a few seconds and see if it connects. That’s how mine was.

GM uses a modulator circuit on their 7 way plugs. To use a back up camera you have to buy and install a filter or adapter:

Both legs spliced in.

Reconnected the wire with the camera wires spliced in

That's good, was just checking if the circuit was intact and that you hadn't mistakenly connected to a dead end leg.

Appears from what has been posted GMC has messed with the power and you now require an adapter.

GMC: Great Minds Corporation, NOT, they couldn't get their small diesel right and had to go with a Mitsubishi. Worked with GMs which became Detroit Diesel my whole life.

Quick update….

Contacted keystone. They said “can you send a picture of the wire? Should be a green one and a white one”

Guess that answers that since it is pink/white and white. Looks like it’s wired wrong. Time to get it fixed under warranty. Will let everyone know how that turns out

Mine was wired to a "hot" 12 volt source by the factory, camera ran continuously. I had to rewire it to the clearance lights.

Update

Well issue has been fixed😀👍

1. It was not the 7way on the 2020 GMC
2. It was the factory installed wiring😢

Seems I was right by looking at Keystone wire coloring. Pink/white was the wrong wire to run to the camera ready hole.

Dealer fixed the wire and pulled the wire from the marker lights.

Hooked up the camera and “BAM” picture is now on the monitor.😀🎉👍

Also, yes auto lights will not activate it but having lights on or just truck marker lights does work😀

Thanks everyone
