New Passport owner.

Hello! We recently re-entered the camper world after a few years away. Previously, we owned an old Apache hardsided pop-up so this feels like quite the upgrade to us!

A little bit about us and how we decided to make the leap back in. Our business (winery) has been a Harvest Host site for several years. After having so many wonderful experiences with campers at our place, we decided that we should be traveling and enjoying the road as well. It will a balancing act to balance our work life with our traveling wants but we feel it is worth the effort.

Our new (to us) rig is a 2020 Passport 2950bh GT. We will be towing it with our 2022 Ram 2500. Since we just purchased it and winter is knocking, we already winterized it and are looking forward to a trip to the East this spring. I'm sure I will have questions as I prepare the trailer for the trip.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

Thanks for the nice welcome. This forum has been great for researching maintenance items and upgrades that I have plans for in the future. I hope contribute once I have some useful experiences to share.

Hello and welcome!

Congrats on the Passport! We are sure you are excited to have all the extra room and features the pop up did not have.

Travel safe and have fun along the way!

Thank you. Hope you’re enjoying your Passport.

It’s been a while since I’ve made it to the Eastern US. We will be heading to Lake Murray, SC to see some family. Quite a shake down trip but it will give us a chance to really get to know the rig. Hopefully the weather cooperates this spring so I can have time to go through everything beforehand.

Thanks. It’s definitely quite a bit different from where we started. One of the neat things about hosting campers here is it seems like we have an RV/camper show daily with different setups coming and going. We have seen everything from the smallest camper vans to big 5th wheel and Class A diesel pushers. It has really helped us to think about what features best serve our family’s needs.

Welcome from VA!

I'm normally a lurker, but when I saw you're from IA, I had to chime in. I spent the vast majority of my school-age years just north of Des Moines (Ankeny) and even worked at Adventureland for a summer. Not sure what area of the state you're from, but I remember most of my childhood there pretty fondly.

I’m a lifelong Iowan and have spent a lot of time in Ankeny over the years. I’m about 30 minutes NE of there in a rural area between the metro and Marshalltown. I don’t know how long it’s been since you’ve been to Ankeny, it sure has grown!

Working at Adventureland would have be interesting I would think. My favorite ride as a kid was the silly silo.

My wife’s mom’s family is from Polk City. We attended one of her high school reunions a number of years ago and thought “I could live here”. Then the normal heat and humidity returned and I changed my mind!

I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota but worked all over the prairies of 5 state region building power line, so I thought I knew heat and humidity. It was almost as bad as the summer I spent in the Indian Ocean on the Nimitz.

Welcome, beautiful set-up! Thinking of signing up for harvest hosts next year for our trip out west. Just talked hubby into a different camper better suited to longer trips for us. Happy trails on your adventure out east.

It certainly gets hot and humid in the summers. It’s at it’s worst when the corn starts adding to the humidity. Every place has its challenges, humidity is part of ours.

Thanks for the nice welcome. IMO, HH stays can be a neat addition to your trip if it works for your route and schedule. Enjoy your new rig and trip out west, safe travels!

Welcome to the forum. I have the 2020 Passport 3100 BH GT. I/we love it. I think you will love yours as well. We haven’t had any real issues with it, knock on wood. We have replaced the tires with Good Year Endurance. I did upgrade my truck from a 2012 6L 2500 Silverado to a 2022 6.6L 2500 Diesel Silverado. The 2012 did the job, just worked hard on long hills and head winds. I have done some cold weather camping in campgrounds where they have a heated bath house. Didn’t do anything below 20 degrees, use portable water, the kitchen sink and I ceramic heater in conjunction the camper heater, so take that camper out and enjoy that excitement.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Thanks! I’m certainly not opposed to camping in cold weather. We’re having mild weather so far so who knows. I will definitely want to get in a few smaller trips before we head across the country.

The 3100BH sounds like a nice rig and is sounds like you have the perfect tow vehicle for it. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying it and haven’t had too many issues. I really like the layout! I too plan to upgrade the stock tires (and spare) with Goodyear Endurance. It’s on my list as well as checking the brakes and wheel bearings. I’m starting to gather up some spare parts and specific tools so I can be better prepared for potential problems.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!

An update on our camper situation. We had some major hail damage at our place earlier this year and the Passport was totaled. We were not planning on replacing it but due to some job changes and now having more flexibility to travel, we decided to start looking. Long story short, we’re now getting used to our new 25rds Cougar. We’ve only had it a few days and are sorting through a few issues but are pretty happy with the rig. Looking forward to our shakedown trip.

Sad to hear of the damage but good to hear you are continuing on with an RV and with our family here. As you know the members are only a post away if you need help.

Thanks, Sourdough. The damage was/is overwhelming, we had baseball size hail that did a number on all of our buildings and vehicles. Luckily our tow rig was spared since it was inside. It will take some time to repair the buildings but it’ll be nice to get away from it all occasionally with the Cougar.

I appreciate the knowledge that is freely shared on this forum. I’ve learned a lot and intend to share things I’ve learned from my experiences.
