How do I get my Goldwing trike into my Raptor?
Fellow Raptor Owners,
I just bought a 2021 Raptor. My problem is my Goldwing trike will bottom out when the front wheel lands on the garage floor and the back tires are still on the ramp. Anyone run into this problem and how did you fix it?
Thanks,
Flyingjets

My brother powers the front WAY up, which reduces the ramp angle at the rear and allows loading without bottoming out on the pivot point

We just put two sections of 4x4 lengthwise under the ramp with another two sections of 2x4's alongside to lift the ramp about 3-4" or so. The 2x4's work to make it easier to get onto the ramp. Works like a champ.

To expand on the 2x4 solution you can purchase thicker rubber pads to place on the door and either have a flip over short ramp attached to door or just carry a short ramp to lay down for the approach to the ramp. We haul our Goldwing trike in a Fusion Impact and if level or slightly nose high we can carefully load, but carry a short (14") plywood with a narrowed 2x4 on one edge that we can put under the ramp to load. After unloading we place it on the dove tail portion of the garage floor to level it out. This makes the garage better to use as living space when we winter in it, no more table legs setting unlevel on the dove tail.

Goldwing bottoms out
Thanks to everyone for how you load your trikes. I'll try to explain my dilemma;
As the front wheel lands on the level garage floor, the rear wheels are still on the ramp. As the trike rolls forward, the frame hits the apex of the level garage floor and ramp halfway between the front wheel and the rear wheels. Has anyone used loading ramps with an arch? I'm considering laying these on the Raptor ramp to raise the back wheels as the front wheel crosses the apex.

Jets, your dilemma is the same as ours, no difference. We are raising the ramp to lessen the angle at the apex. All the trike owners I know do the same thing. Yes, Honda, Yamaha, Harley Davidson. Factory and aftermarket. They all have the same problem at one time or another. Buy more ramps if you like. But they just end up being more 'stuff' to drag around that isn't necessary. Your call.

Can you explain how you load your trike? Are you saying if I raise the back end of the ramp door this allows my trike to cross the apex without any problem?

Have a Goldwing trike and my last 5th wheel was a toy hauler. You need to put a 4x4 under the ramp end to take the steep angle out a little and I used a trifold folding ramp to get up on the toy hauler's ramp. Watch your Goldwing's underside as the coolant overflow tub is the most vulnerable to getting ripped off if you try to force it over the top edge otherwise (ask me how I know!).

I sent a PM, Don. I'll post a picture later today when I unload the bike from the trailer. George may have explained this in better detail.

This was done just to show the general idea with scrap around the RV lot.

Do what you like but don't drag the bottom over that juncture between ramp and garage. It is possible to buy the correct epoxy when you ruin your overflow tank but I guess I didn't get it in all the places needed as mine still leaked and I had to buy a new one. I expect they are more expensive during the plague.

Or you could just put some 2"x6" boards a few feet long in the center on the flat floor so the front wheel keeps going up just a bit longer until your rear wheels are up further on the ramp to bed area.
A lot of guys do this on car trailers to get past a low point.
But I do like the idea of the arched aluminium ramps for the rear wheels. You only have two lightweight pieces to stow away instead of a half dozens pieces of wood.

On bumper pull trailers you can roll the tow vehicle's rear tires up on 4 x 4s and that raises the front of the trailer and lowers the rear deck angle.

C'mon man, you're a pilot. This should be easy to visualize.
If you could raise the tail of the ramp enough, it could be made flat right? So, if you raise the rear of the ramp a few inches, the angle between the ramp and garage floor will be reduced, which will give you more clearance between the bottom of the trike and the pivot point of the ramp.
